Susan, the pill works by preventing you from ovulating throughout the month, the individual pills don't act as a daily prevention. Since your period was November 5, you may ovulate around the 19th, which is when you are most fertile. Although it's possible that you could have conceived from sex on the 8 if you have an irregular cycle, it's unlikely that you are pregnant.

-- Contributed by: susanI started my period nov 5 took my last pill fri nov 7 had unprotected sex sat. nov 8 my period end the 9th. im wondering if im still protected from the last pill i took?
-- Contributed by: susanSusan, did your period end the same day you missed the pill? I'm unsure if you missed a pill on your new pack or the old one. If you missed a pill but have since had your period, you're not pregnant. If you missed a pill on your new pack, you should use a backup form of birth control and take a pregnancy test if your period is late.

although you should mention to your doctor that you were taking the pill for the first few weeks of your pregnancy, both you and your baby should be fine. The pill prevents you from ovulatiing but shouldn't harm your baby.
-- Contributed by: HollySwansonIf i'm taking birth control and i get pregnant on them, but do not realize it for a few weeks and am still taking birth control pills, can they harm the baby?
-- Contributed by: Birth ControlNikki, stopping the pills suddenly can cause irregular bleeding like you mentioned. If it continues for several more days or you have more clotting, contact your doctor. YOu may have spotting for the rest of this cycle until your period gets back to normal.
-- Contributed by: HollySwansonI decided to stop taking my pills on after the 3rd day of my new pill cycle (therefore, I only took 3 pills). I have all of the sudden started bleeding. Could it be from taking 3 pills then stopping? I would understand more if I had taken half of my pills but only 3? A big clot came out when I went to the bathroom~ could that have been an early miscarriage? I just had a period...I can't imagine that that could be it unless I was pregnant and still had a period and didn't know it??? I think maybe I am obsessing since I have decided to have another baby.
