Confused, it's very unlikely that you would be pregnant after a tubal ligation, but it can happen in less than 1 percent of women who have had the procedure. If you are pregnant, a pregnancy test would certainly give you an accurate answer. Keep in mind that a tubal pregnancy, when the embryo implants in the tubes, is different from having a tubal ligation. If you have conceived, there's no reason to think that it wouldn't be a normal pregnancy.

you may want to consider getting a new doctor if you don't feel comfortable talking to him honestly but I don't think hard drugs would affect the procedure. The symptoms you mention could be related to pregnancy, so you should take a test, but the tubal ligation is highly effective and rarely fails. Your doctor, meanwhile, may be able to do a blood test to check your hormone levels to see if you could be starting menopause.
-- Contributed by: HollySwansonI had a tubal ligation in January of 1995. I heard that if you a past of hard drugs it will make your tubal tissue thin and can cause you to get pregnant. Is that true or myth? I have been showing sings of pregnancy. Tender breasts, frequent urination,no period for almost 2 months. and if I think I'm having it its discolored like a dark rusty brown. Should I be concerned or since I am 38 could this be signs of menopause? I'm very worried and since my doctor is a family friend I need some advice before I go. Thank you and please respond. deana scheffler

having your tubes tied is different from from an ectopic, or tubal, pregnancy. A tubal pregnancy occurs when the egg is fertilized and implants in the tube. A pregnancy that occurs this way cannot progress normally and carries a high risk to the mother.
Having your tubes tied, as you know, is permanent birth control. Only about 1 percent of women who have their tubes tied will conceive. But, assuming that conception occurs normally, there's no greater chance of the pregnancy having complications as any other pregnancy.
-- Contributed by: HollySwansonhi my name is diana i have my tubes tied since,jan,2008,i have a little sense that i could be pregant, maybe it could be some thing im not really sure,my question is can you have a normal, pregancy with the tubes tied?or is it impossible a pregancylike that to be succesful?
-- Contributed by: Enter your name hereAjeenah, an Ectopic Pregnancy can usually only be diagnosed through an ultrasound, but it sounds like you could have some of the symptoms, so please follow up with your doctor. It's often hard to tell the different between regular pregnancy symptoms and a tubal pregnancy, so you will need to discuss with your doctor.

-- Contributed by: ajeenah valentineI had my tubes burnt cut and tied, one year and 3 months later I found out I was 6 months pregnant. My baby was still born and I lost alot of blood. He was fully developed but was only as long as my hand. He looked like his older brother at birth. I never felt him move unless it was like a stomach growl that was it. He is now buried in Wake Forest Cemetary. Please have yourself looked at.

although having your tubes tied is one of the most effective means of birth control, it's still possible though rare to get pregnant. Since it sounds like your period is late, you should take a pregnancy test to be sure. If it's negative and you go another month without a period, contact your doctor.
-- Contributed by: HollySwansoni just had my daughter 6 months ago and had my tubes cut and sewed up i have had my period regvlarly except i havent got it this month. i just started having sex again but have symptoms like i did with my son and my daughter. what could be going on?
-- Contributed by: brandyKayla, typically, a tubal pregnancy won't progress far enough to cause visible changes to your body. The tube would rupture before it would get as big as you've described. Have you taken a pregnancy test? If not, it's a good idea to take one as a precaution. You should also talk to your doctor about your symptoms.
-- Contributed by: HollySwansonFor the past three or four months i have had all the pregnancy symptoms i even look 5 to 6 months pregnant and my stomache is hard as a rock i have looked this pg for the last 2 months the problem being i am on the depo and i have my tubes tief is it possible i could have a tubal pg what do i do ????

it's very unusual to conceive while on Mirena. Combined with the fact that you have all negative test results, it doesn't sound to me like you are pregnant. Many tests can appear to have a positive later, which is actually an evaporation line. Wait a few days and test again. If you still get a negative and doubt the results, follow up with your doctor.
-- Contributed by: HollySwansonObbie, with the symptoms you mention and the fact that your period is late, it sounds like a good time to take a pregnancy test. The back pain and headaches can be signs of pregnancy, but the missed period is usually the biggest indicators.
-- Contributed by: HollySwansonokay first i have the mirena as my birth control, second i have taken about 8 pregnacy tests, the first one i took was negative for atlest ten minutes or longer i looked at it about two hours later and it was then positive, so i followed with another test it was negative, then about an hour later i followed with another negative, then another negative about an hour later then the next morning at like 630am i took another it was as well negative and this was about a month ago. so i took another one a couple of days ago it was negative, i have been having some cramping and spotting or when i wipe i have had some blood streaks. i was wondering what might be causing this or if it could be results from a tubal pregnacy? please get back with me asap!!!!
-- Contributed by: ChristinaI'm having lowerback pain on my left side, my period its one week late, i have headaches and i feel dissy. would that sign? please help
-- Contributed by: ObbieRobert, first let me say that anything you have a health concern, particulary related to pregnancy, you should call your doctor and let them check her out. But, I don't think you have to be concerned about the lopsided-ness. An ectopic pregnancy would most likely be discovered long before it grew large enough to cause a visible bump. As an ectopic pregnancy progresses, it is accompanied by a lot of pain, which is usually the first indicator of a problem.
-- Contributed by: HollySwansonMy wife and I found out she was pregnant about a week or two ago. And she I already showing. We noticed that her stomach sticks out a bit more on one side. Should this be a point of concern? Or maybe a sign of eptopic pregnancy?
-- Contributed by: RobertMarie,
an ectopic pregnancy should still produce a positive pregnancy test. In most cases, women don't find out until several weeks into the pregnancy that it's actually ectopic, which is usually discovered when the woman has pain or bleeding, or might be seen on an ultrasound.
Since you are not usually late, though, and had the procedure just a few months ago, you should give your doctor a call.
-- Contributed by: HollySwansonI am over a week late for my period, but the pregnancy test showed up negative (I am 37 years old and have NEVER had a late period). I had Essure done about 3 months ago, which puts me at a greater risk for ectopic pregnancy. Is it possible for an ectopic pregnancy to cause a negative test result?

semen doesn't usually travel all the way up to the fallopian tubes even when a woman has her tubes in tact. Typically, it just breaks down in the vagina.
-- Contributed by: HollySwansonwhen a women has her tubes tide, where does the simen go when released in the vigina during intercourse.
-- Contributed by: tanikaMother of 3, if you are having symptoms of a tubal pregnancy, it's important that you see a doctor right away. There isn't anything that can be done to save the pregnancy, but seeking medical attention can prevent further complications and can save your tube so you can try for another pregnancy.
-- Contributed by: HollySwansonMY SITUATION IS EXACTLY THE SAME, WHAT CAN I DO?

the easiest, and cheapest, way to confirm a pregnancy is by taking a Home Pregnancy Test Overview | pregnancy test]]. If you are pregnant, you may qualify for assistance through your local women and children program. A human services office should be able to help you find the resources.
-- Contributed by: HollySwansonJennifer, Although it seems like there should be a way to move the embryo down, I'm afraid there isn't. Once a pregnancy is discovered in a tube, there is nothing that can be done to remove it since it has already implanted there. The only option is to remove it and try to save the tube.
-- Contributed by: HollySwansonI think that I might be pregnant. But I had my tube tied about fourteen years ago. I would like to know but without medical insurance I am having a problem getting an appointment with a doctor can you help me.

since the tube was completely removed, we know that this pregnancy has to be as a result of the other side. So, you don't have as high of a risk if you were able to keep the left tube and a second pregnancy was in that area.
But, having one ectopic pregnancy does put you at a higher risk of having another, so make sure your doctor is following you closely, especially with early ultrasounds.
-- Contributed by: HollySwansonAbout 3 months ago, I had a tubal pregnancy. I just found out 2 days ago that I'm pregnant again. With the first tubal, my left tube ruptured and I had to have emergency surgery. I only have one tube left. How common is it to have another tubal after having one?
-- Contributed by: Brooke MichaudSusana, it might. A lot of it depends on where the egg implanted and how your body reacts to it, but you might have a positive pregnancy test as a result of an Ectopic Pregnancy.
-- Contributed by: HollySwansonwill a ectopic pregnancy show positive results in a home pregnancy test?
-- Contributed by: SusanaMy boyfriend..., if you have been trying to conceive for over a year with no result, you should contact your OB/Gyn or fertility clinic for testing. It might be as simple as needing to determine when you are ovulating, or testing may need to be done to determine if you have a definite health issue affecting your fertility.
-- Contributed by: HollySwansonI have regular periods and my boyfriend and I have unprotected sex all the time. We have been trying to get pregnant but still have not. What seems to be the problem.
-- Contributed by: my boyfriend and I have unprotected sex all the time and being try to get pregnant but for some reason I cannot. what is wrong with my body.Brenda, it can be hard to determine if you have a tubal pregnancy as the symptoms can be confused with other things. If you have pain on one side of your abdomen, you should contact your doctor. These can be very serious and need to be addressed by your physician.

JoAnna, as you learned the hard way, getting your tubes tied is not 100 percent effective. A few women still conceive. If you do not feel capable to raising the child, you may want to consider some of the options for an unwanted pregnancy.
If you are keeping the baby, your doctor is right to monitor you closely. Medical advances have come far in the last decade, and there's no reason to assume that you'll have a difficult pregnancy, but it's always good to be safe. Congratulations and good luck.
-- Contributed by: HollySwansonI thought I was going through menapause. Had my tubes tied for almost 9 years, have Crohn's disease, and found out in September I have problems with blot clots and started taking lots of medicine. I have not had a period since my tubes were tied and have gained 30 pounds since August although I have been sick. I have felt pregnant but thought I couldnt be because of the tubaligation however the dr. just told me 3 days ago I was pregnant. She drew blood and sent it out and wants me to see a high risk ob-gyn because I am 40 with 2 chronic diseases on lots of medication along with a tubaligation. My fiancee is 39 and has never fathered a child and assumed by what dr's told him about previous meds he was on he must be sterile. I guess I should be happy however all I feel is fear. My baby is turning 18 in 12 weeks and my other one is almost 20 they are extremly excited . I however guess I am still numb. Any words of advice or wisdom for me and my miracle baby here at christmas.
-- Contributed by: JoAnnaCurrieTubial, since your last period was on 10/13, you might have conceived around October 27. If you did, you would have gotten a positive pregnancy test by now. If your period is irregular and you ovulated later, you could have been testing too early, though even still you would probably know by now.
Wait a few days and try testing again. If it's still negative, call your doctor to see if they want to do any testing to see why your period is so late.
-- Contributed by: HollySwansonI'm 38 yrs old and I've had a Tubial almost 10 yrs ago. But I haven't had a period sense October 13th, 2008. I took a pregnancy test and it was negative. Is it possible that I can still be pregnant.
-- Contributed by: Tubial PregnancyCandice, although rare, it is possible for a woman to conceive after having her tubes tied. If you haven't already done so, you should take a home pregnancy test. If it's negative and you still don't get your period soon, give your doctor a call.

-- Contributed by: margaretKisha, a tubal ligation is a permanent procedure that often can't be reversed, but in some cases it can be done through surgery. Unfortunately, the surgery is your only means of conceiving, although a doctor may be able to perform IVF since that would bypass your tubes and place a fertilized egg directly into your uterus. But, that's also a costly procedure.
Maybe you want to look into surrogacy or adoption as an option?
-- Contributed by: HollySwansonMy tubes been tied almost 2 yrs. And me and my bf wants another child but we cant afford the reversal what else can we do
