I bought equate brand early pregnancy test from walmart on 6/21/09 and had a faint false positive on first morning urine on 6/22 and 6/23. I had a blood hcg at the Dr on afternoon of 6/22 and was told it was negative..hcg level less than 5. The urine tests were done properly, according to directions on package. I wanted to report this so you will buy another brand. Also, I live in Missouri. With the heat being the way it is, I am guessing that it could interfere with these test kits, thus causing an evaporation line in the result window upon activation.
-- Contributed by: DawnI've used the Equate brand, had a tubal 4 years ago but still test when late just in case of ectopic prengnancy. The Equate brands gave me a false positive & so did the American Fare you buy at Kmart. Both showed positive results but I just had a blood test done and it was negative. So either the blood test is wrong or these brands do get evap lines thus are inaccurate. I did do the tests correctly btw. (3 kids later- old pro LOL.
-- Contributed by: AnnJust wanted to let people know not to order pregnancy tests from early-pregnancy-tests.com. I ordered 10 and all 10 had evaporation lines within the test time, and the evap lines were a shade of pink, and I was not pregnant and did not have a chemical pregnancy.I don't want anyone else to get false hope.

I'm sorry to hear about your recent miscarriage. If it happened later in the pregnancy, it can take a few months for your body to return to a normal cycle so you can conceive again.
-- Contributed by: HollySwansonI've been taking a pregnancy test every month and it's always negative. Although, my periods seem to get later and later each month and I experience week long (or longer) cramps before my actual cycle begins to flow. I guess it could have something to do with my recent miscarriage..but I am also trying to get pregnant again. Hopefully cutting down on Pepsi will help my tests to come out more clearly. I know it's horrible to drink soda, especially, when I'm planning on a pregnancy...I guess I just doubt too much that it could happen for me again.
-- Contributed by: BrianahLeash, you don't mention how old you are, but you could you be starting menopause? Many women assume that this starts in their 40s, but it can begin to affect your cycle in your mid to late thirties.
I assume you had the Blood-based Pregnancy Test at your doctors office. Did they suspect you might be pregnant? You will probably want to retest in about a week, then call your OB/GYN if the results are still negative to discuss if there is anything you should be concerned about.
-- Contributed by: HollySwansonmy period is here like clock work every month, i am now 6 days late (never been late in my life) i am not on birth control pills i have 2 children already. pregnancy tests are saying negative also had a blood test which came back with very low hcg levels so that was a negative too. any ideas on whats going on?
-- Contributed by: leashAnway, I went on birth control and had horrible side effects. the doc told me to go off for one week and i began to bleed for 2 weeks straight. the day after the bleeding stopped, i had unprotected sex and started to feel pregnant this past weekend. monday i took a test, extremely faint line. the next day i took another but late in the noon and there was nothing. the next day i took one in the morning and i got a very thin faint blue line that took over 10 mins to pop up, but the nausea and breast tenderness is increasing. today i took a test aroun 1pm and there was no line until around 5 minutes later and it was very faint as well. im going to do a test upon rising tomorrow and hopefully this will tell me for sure. i used a store brand 5 days early test since its the 5th and i had to have conceived on the 25th of may for this...it takes roughlt 9-12 days for implantation to settle and this is when these tests should work, however mine are so light...my period should be here in about days, so hopefully the linews should get darker by then if i am. hcg levels double every 2 days.
-- Contributed by: TamiRMarilyn,
since you took the tests in different months, I think they were accurate and you are not pregnant. It's not unusual for a woman's cycle to take a few months to return to normal after coming off the pill, but you shouldn't be missing it for three months. You might want to give your OB/Gyn a call in case they want to do an exam.
-- Contributed by: HollySwansonI missed my period about 3 months ago, last one was February 20th. I took two pregnancy tests, the clear blue, one in April and the other May 22nd. They both said negative. Is there a possibility that I'm pregnant or is my body just messed up. I've always been regular about my periods. I was taking birth control pills, but stopped them the beginning of February. Please help.
-- Contributed by: MarilynTracy, it sounds pretty unlikely that you could be pregnant. For your period to be late related to a pregnancy, you would have to have enough HCG in your body to affect your cycle. By the time a woman is late, she should have enough HCG to get a positive result on a pregnancy test.
Plus, although the condom slipped off, it remained inside, still providing a barrier. If it fell off completely or broke, sperm could have been introduced.
Wait a few more days and take another test for your peace of mind, but you are most likely not pregnant.
-- Contributed by: HollySwansonHi, my period was due on the 11th May and now it's the 19th of May. (8 days late). I tested yesterday with a sensitive HPT (25mIU/mL) and the result was negative. Last week, the doctor also did a urine test in her clinic and it was also negative. The methods of contraception used were: condom, withdrawal, and my presumed 'infertile period' ie. sex happened 5 days before my period was due. My partner did not ejaculate when he withdrew, but i noticed that the condom was not on his penis when he withdrew and it was left on my vagina. From this, I have a few questions: 1. How accurate is a negative result 1 week after missed period (percentage-wise)? 2. Could pre... have slipped out of the condom and cause pregnancy? 3. How likely is it that i am pregnant?
-- Contributed by: TracyMinako, it can't hurt to take a pregnancy test. Buy one that comes with two in a box so you can take one now, wait a week, and take another. Since you got a period after you had sex, you are probably not pregnant.
-- Contributed by: HollySwansonHi, I was due on 26th April and my normal period came..still I am getting slightly noticeable cramps on the right side (have been getting them since 9th April- 2days after I had sex)...and I'm afraid I might be pregnant, do you think an Home preg test will be accurate? I went to the doctor but told me that the home preg test will give me accurate results..I'm afraid it won't though, and he doesn't do bloos tests so I don't know what to do. Thankyou
-- Contributed by: Minako TruleyNaomi, since you've had several different tests that are negative, you are probably not pregnant. false negatives are not uncommon, but it would be unusual for you to test negative on both urine and a Blood-based Pregnancy Test.
If you still don't have a period in another week, you might want to test then. The symptoms you mention are some of the early signs of pregnancy, but they could also be a sign of PMS or the flu or a combination of several things.
-- Contributed by: HollySwansonHi i was due for my period on the 22nd february '08 and it still hasn't come. I have been for urine and blood tests which have come back negative. i don't usually miss a period when i'm stressed but quite the opposite, i get my periods like twice a month. The thing is i feel pregnant. Is this normal? My breasts are sore and I get queazy everyday from 3-4pm.Also 3 days before i get my period i get headaches and bad cramps, i've had these since the week leading up to the 22nd feb '08. Thankyou
-- Contributed by: Naomi NashKaren,
Pregnancy Test False Positives are pretty rare, especially in a Blood-based Pregnancy Test but they can happen. This is especially true if you are taking certain medications that make the test "think" it's detected the pregnancy hormone.
-- Contributed by: HollySwansonHello, Could a qualitative blood test show a false negative?
-- Contributed by: karenCassandra, that is confusing. Did the clinic give you a urine test or a Blood-based Pregnancy Test? As long as you read a pregnancy test within 10 minutes and you see a line, no matter how light, it indicates that you are pregnant.
It may be that you are very early. Is your period late? Wait a few days and take another test. If this is positive, call the clinic back or your OB/GYN and request another test in the office. Feeling cramping is normal in an early pregnancy, but it could also be a sign that you are going to get your period.
-- Contributed by: HollySwansonI've taken four at home pregnancy tests, of which the first seemed negative until i looked more closely. i almost feel like i read too much into the extremely, almost undetectable line. nevertheless, i bought two more tests, different brand than the first. these both read positive. the line was there, but not nearly as dark as the test line was... the day after i took the third at home pregnancy test i went to a free clinic, where a lady administered a test for me. she told it me it was negative. on my way home i picked up another test, yet a different brand, which was positive, but once again very faint. far less clear than the second and third, but more so than the first. am i pregnant? i keep having something comparable to menstrual cramps. would that indicate a soon to be miscarriage? I'm so confused!
-- Contributed by: cassandraM.S., getting a period or having a form of bleeding during pregnancy shouldn't affect the results of a pregnancy test. A home pregnancy test measures the level of pregnancy hormone in your urine. That hormone is present whether or not a woman continues to bleed throughout a pregnancy.
So, I think you are probably not pregnant, but why don't you take another test to ease your mind. If you've been under stress lately or have had an illness, it may have thrown off your cycle, causing your moodiness and other symptoms.
-- Contributed by: HollySwansonI've read that some women do still have a period throughout their pregnancy - I know my cousin did too. My last period (Aug 23rd) came a week earlier then normal and was pretty light and short (though I normally have a light/short period anyway - though this was more so). So I bought an home pregnancy test but it came back negative. This is good, except that I am experiencing symptoms like constantly going to the bathroom. My lower abdomen feels swollen and "tight" if that makes sense. I've been getting a little queasy on occasion too and more emotional then normal (like I would be the day before my regular period). So if I'm getting a period while pregnant or whatever, would that make an at-home pregnancy test inaccurate? Would a blood test be more accurate?
-- Contributed by: M.S.Hi Carey, a plus sign should indicate that you are pregnant, but if you think the plus showed up in the wrong window, you should test again. I've read that some people find the Equate tests don't always work right.
Give it another shot, this time with a different brand.
-- Contributed by: HollySwansonA week ago I took an equate pregnancy test. I've taken them before and they've been negative. This time in the square window (which is the test window) a plus sign formed! Has anyone else had that happen, and what does that mean? Is the test no good?
-- Contributed by: CareyI hear you, Denise. I had a whole collection of home pregnancy tests from when I was pregnant with my son. When I had a miscarriage, I only got faint lines on the pregnancy test, and it was because my HCG was dwindling.
BUT...your tests may not be accurate because they were left in the car. I don't know where you live, but most of the country is in a heat wave. The package insert says not to store the tests in temps above 86 degrees. I assume your car was hotter than that. I don't know exactly what will happen to a test that gets too hot, but to be safe you should contact your doctor and let them test you for sure.
-- Contributed by: HollySwansonHi,
I have been taking pregnancy tests for several days now and they have all been positive. I do so because I have had two miscarriages before, then had a baby and it drives me muts but I just have to do it for peace of mind. Anyway, I purchased a First Response test kit and left it in my car on the front seat all day yesterday. I took it this morning and i DID ALL THREE TESTS IF YOU CAN BELIEVE IT! UGGG.. The second line on all three tests was very faint. So is this because I left the test in my hot car yesterday or is this because I have dwindling levels of HCG. I thought the tests have different sensitivity levels and do not measure how pregnant you are just that either you are or you are not pregnant. Do these tests respond with a darker line if there is more HCG? Help... I'm getting worried. Thanks! Denise
