Rachel,

yes, you should wait until your period is due to take a test. Taking a sooner will likely give you a negative but might not be completely accurate.

But, I think the chances of you being pregnant are slim. Most women conceive during ovulation, which is two weeks after their period. Since you had sex one week after your period and took emergency contraception, you're probably not pregnant.

I had my period the week before the sexual encounter in which the condom broke. I took the first dose of Plan B the next afternoon and took the 2nd pill at midnight. But I do not know when to take a pregnancy test. Should I just wait until my missed period?

KK,

nausea is one of the side effects of Plan B. Most medication has some immediate absorption, so you may have gotten enough of the dose if it stayed down for a few minutes. You can't take anymore of it, but you should still take a pregnancy test when your period is due so you know for sure.

I took the first dose fine then after the second dose I got sick and trew up...will the pill still work?

Larrisa,

has it been 6 days since you took the morning after pill? If so, you may need to wait another week or so until you get your period. For some women, the month after taking the pill can cause your period to be late or irregular, so you might want to take a pregnancy test to make sure you are not pregnant.

KC, it could be possible that you are pregnant if you conceived before you took the pill. Plan B works to prevent an egg from being fertilized and attaching to your uterus. If that's already occured before you took the pill, you might be pregnant. Once your period is due, take a pregnancy testto know for sure.

So, I had unprotected sex with my husband and I took the plan B after the 72 hour time frame, and I was ovulating too. Does plan B work after 72 hours? Some people say it works up to 5 days. Is that true?

Claire, Plan B is not meant to be used as a regular birth control method but rather as a backup method when other ways fail. Using Plan B is not as effective as regular birth control and does not prevent against STDs.

why cant plan b be used as a regular form of birth control. can i take it every time i have unprotected sex which is not that often? what is it doing to my body? it effects me far less than regular birth control pills, which make me moody and not interested.

Lauren, antibiotics can affect the patch so it is possible to get pregnant while using it. You should talk to your pharmacist about using Plan B while on the patch since you may need to remove the patch for a few days.

What if you took an antibiotic while on patch...which will make it ineffective. Then had sex without condom. Will Plan B hurt my patch for that week?

Blair,

the Plan B isn't like a medication that you can build up a tolerance to. It works each time you take it, independent of whether you have taken it before.

If you're concerned and seem to be taking Plan B a lot, talk to your doctor. There may be a better form of birth control that you can use like the patch or pill rather than relying on Plan B, which should only be used for emergencies and not as an ongoing form of birth control.

Jann,

the Plan B pill should have prevented you from conceiving, so there is very little chance that you would be pregnant now. You can take most pregnancy tests on the day that your period is due but the First Response Early Result Pregnancy Test can be used four days before your period is due.

how many times can you take plan b before it becomes ineffective i have taken it quite a few times and i am really worried

-- Contributed by: Blair

I took Plan B about a week and a half ago. I am still worried that there is a chance i may be pregnant. How likely am i to get pregnant after taking the pill? When is the soonest i can take a pregnancy test?
