Majeda,

you shold talk to your doctor about the problems you are having. You probably need to be examined to make sure you don't have any other health problems going on.

Why after removing the IUD device my period become so heavy and without any prior idications. The device has caused me many problems and all the side effect of it I went through. Afer I removed I felt much better since one year and half of placing it and went to many doctors they said there there are no problems with the device and whenn I read on it on ther internet I found the side effects applied to me then I went I did remove it.

Rosemary, hopefully, the doctor did an exam or ultrasound after removing the IUD to check for any scarring. If they did and said it's okay, you should be able to conceive normally. If you try for 12 months without success, you should go back to your doctor for further fertility testing.

mirena was place about 14 month ago,i decided it was to remove it, but it was diffcult for the doctor, because she could'nt locate where the iud was inside my uterus, it was very painful experience, it took a scan to locate the iud and about an hour and some drug's before this doctor removed it.my conern now is can i get pregnant again, the doctor stated there was no damage but we see.

Jackie,

the manufacturers of Mirena recommend that it only be used by women who have one child because it is less likely to be expelled by women who have already given birth. Your doctor might have another suggestion of an IUD you can use or you might want to consider the Birth Control Shot - Depo or the patch.

Brittany, yes, it's very possible to get pregnant from unprotected sex. I've read that about 30 percent of women who don't use a form of birth control will conceive each month. the longer you have unprotected sex, the more likely you are to conceive.

i was looking for another method of birth control because the pills are not my thing and i was wondering do you have to have children in order to get on mirena because i do not wish to have any children at this moment

if a guy never uses a condom all the times you have sex and he ejackulates in you everytime is it very possible to get pregnant?

Jess,

you can be on the Mirena for a while before the periods stop, so I suspect that's what is happening now. If you're worried about being pregnant, you could always take a pregnancy test. I think one of the drawbacks to this method of birth control is that you might not know if you conceive.

I have had the Mirena for over a year now and so far I have not had any of the side affects that seem to happen (i.e. cramps, lighter to no periods, heavier periods). Unfortunatly, I have been counting the days since my last period and I'm 2 weeks late. This hasn't happened yet. Should I be concerned? Can things change even after a year?

I have the Mirena, I have never had a child and it seems to be working alright. However, I get bad cramps sometimes during sex or if I have to pee and my boyfriend says it really hurts him during sex sometimes (depending on the position). My periods are quite heavy and last about 5 days--and I've had the Mirena for almost a year. They definitely are heavier and longer than when I was on Yaz. I still ovulate (the cysts were seen on sonogram and I feel it every month). This concerns me sometimes, but I haven't gotten pregnant yet...It's great not having to take the pill and I feel more normal without the stronger hormones. My doc told me that the progesterone in the Mirena is mainly delivered to the uterine wall to make it thinner but does not have as many side effects as the pill. I lost weight off the pill and my chest size is back to a C cup from a D cup. All in all I think that the positives outweigh the negatives in regard to the Mirena.

Ali, the strings are up higher than a tampon string, they don't hang out. Instead, they have to felt for. Most men can't feel it, but even if they do it doesn't seem to bother them

OK so it all sounds good for me ...But what about the guy will he feel it during sex? If you can feel it your self then cant he? Also what's this about strings ...is it like a tampon?

Curious, Mirena does not protect against any sexually transmitted diseases, so it's recommended that women only use it in monogamous relationship for birth control purposes only. Having more than one sexual partner while using Mirena does not cause problems with the device, but the manufacturers want you to know that you should use a barrier-form of protection like a condom to prevent STDs.

I have the IUD (mirena) I have been married for 9 yrs but have recently seperated, I am now very concerned, I have had the same sexual partner for the past 11 yrs but since we have seperated now have a different sexual partner, my concern is that throughout our seperation my husband and I still occasionally have sex, as it's not that easy to just let him go, so at this time with my current boyfriend and my ex-husband I guess you can say I am not in a monogomus relationship and I am concerned now why it says that the mirena is for people in a monogomus relationship and what problems may I face having 2 sexual partners?

Barbara, a lot of women prefer the Mirena or other types of IUDs more than the pill that needs to be taken everyday. Since the IUD needs to be inserted by a doctor, you should talk to him/her about their thoughts regarding how it will work for you. We also have a link above to the Mirena website, which provides a lot more information.

I am thinking about getting the mirena i am 22 and i have one son. just wanted to know if anyone actually think that this is a good method

-- Contributed by: barbara

Kristen, call your doctors office. The Mirena may have been misplaced and need to be removed or adjusted. A doctor or nurse shouldn't handle that for you.

-- Contributed by: HollySwanson

i currently have the mirena. i cannot feel the strings and i have been feeling extreemley bloated and nauseated...im a little concerned.

-- Contributed by: kristin

Tiffany, you should be able to feel the strings. Since you can't, it might be a sign that it shifted and needs to be replaced. Give your doctor a call to see if he or she wants to examine you.

i have the mirena, and recently when i checked myself, i could feel the "T" mirena, but couldnt feel the strings. is that normal, or is that alright?

-- Contributed by: tiffany

Megan, you should be able to check for the removal threads at the top of your vagina by inserting your fingers inside. If you don't feel the strings or feel the device itself, contact your health care provider who can check the placement.

How doI check the string for the mirena. I can not feel it. Do I have to go up inside to feel it?

-- Contributed by: Megan

Sara, though unlikely, Mirena can be expelled, but I don't think a woman who has not had a child would be more likely to have this happen. If you are using Mirena and feel like it might be coming out, contact your health care provider and check to see if the removal threads are in the correct position.

Just wondering, has anyone here not had a child and got mirena? I want to know if the device really becomes expelled easier for women who are not mothers.

-- Contributed by: sara

Lesley, I've read other accounts of women who have bleeding after getting Mirena and it sounds like it can last for about 3 months. If the bleeding is heavy, you should give your doctor a call and get checked out to make sure everything is okay.

-- Contributed by: HollySwanson

i have hade Mirena for about 3 weeks now. I have been bleeding since it was inserted. I was wondering if anybody else had this problem. Is this a normal side effect?

The IUD is everything I could want in birth control. my husband and I can have sex anytime anywhere without the downside of other methods. The spotting and cramps went away about 4 months after I got it and it's been 4 years already. I used to get killer cramps that landed me in the clinic but now I barely get my period. The only way I know it's that time of the month is by my moodiness and cravings. It also makes family planning a breeze because I know I have 1 more year to save money for the baby when I get it taken out next year. Highly reccomend to those in a committed relationship.

Hi Macinda,

you're right, you should not be on Mirena if you have a history of PID. Does your doctor know about the PID?

If the cramping is too much, that alone might be a good reason to find a new birth control. Maybe there is a pill that would be better suited for you.

If you talk to your doctor about the Mirena/PID connection and you don't get a satisfactory response, make an appointment with another doctor.

-- Contributed by: HollySwanson

I have hade Mirena since August 07, about 3 months now. it is really hard to get used to the cramping and the constant bleeding, but i keep being told it gets better. My two concerns are this...my doctor told me it was okay to have Mirena, but I have had PID, as well as a blood clot from birth control pills. Both things I have read are not recommended for an IUC. I hope I will be okay.
