Help please,

I'm not sure what you would qualify exactly, but a good place to start is the FMLA website. You can contact your local office through that site and speak with them. They will be the best resource for you and can likely put you in touch with other programs.

I am now strictly on bed rest and put on the FMLA but it only pays one month out of the three that i will be out and only pays me 60% of my salary. Is it possible to go on some kind of unemployment program for pregnant women so i can get some kind of money coming in for the two months that i will not receive anything from my employer?

Pregnant and need help,

at this point, you should seek out your local homeless shelter or women's center. They will be able to help you find out what resources are available in your area to help you out. There are some programs that may be able to help, but you'll need to first find out what's available in your area and what you qualify for.

Chell,

is there any way that you can do some of your work from home? If your doctor doesn't want you to return to work, it's important to follow her directions and continue taking time off. Perhaps your doctors office can tell you about other assistance programs in your area that you might qualify for?

-- Contributed by: HollySwanson

Okay...here is my deal. I get no paid leave and no disability through my employer. I can not return to work without a release from the doctors. The doctor does not want to release me back to work, even with my employer giving me less of a work load. So, how do I provide for my family with no income? Only one working... Oh, I do not qualify for any of the above mentioned programs either.

Chrystak,

I think most mystery shopper ads are a scam. Your best bet would be to contact a retailer near you and ask them if they work with any companies that provide mystery shopper services.

Does anyone know of a legit mystery shopper company?

Bex,

it might be possible for you to take another position in the facility that would be more administrative. If not, your human resource department should be able to provide you with more information about where to look in your area for benefits.

ive currently just found out that im expecting my first child and due to the job that im in i have a feeling the risk assessments are going to come back too high for me to continue working in residential care with clients with challenging behaviours. im just wondering that if i do get signed off work what would be the direction that i go in?? i know about some of the benefits that i could apply for but is the only option going on benefits until the baby is a little older for me then to return to work. please help x

Myra,

once you are on unemployment, I don't think you can then switch to disability. If there is a medical reason for you to be disability, you should do it now rather taking a chance with unemployment.

Does anyone know if you can go from unemployment to disability? I am nervous about loosing my job in this current market. However my Dr. will sign off on disability at any time. I'm trying to figure out if I should chance it and risk working or go on disability early.

Crystal, first, please make sure that you are safe and that he isn't going to harm you in any way. Your local woman's shelter or human services organization should be able to help.

As for the pregnancy, have you decided if you want to keep the baby? If you aren't sure, read through our Options_for_Unwanted_Pregnancy article. You might decide to consider giving the baby up for adoption.

There are also some groups, like WIC, that can help you with resources. I suspect your college's student services office or women's health group may also be able to get you a list of support services. Good luck.

Tabitha, since you are sick and can't work, you might qualify for assistance, like WIC and Medicaid. Check out the link in the above article to "State Benefits Offices", which should help you find the resources you need.

Alla, please get in touch with your local employment agencies and women's support services. They may be able to help you find work.

Hi Michelle, I'm sorry to hear what a rough time you're going through. Please consider getting in touch with your local women's center. They often have access to supplies and resources that may be able to help you or they can put in touch with someone who can.

Mona, are you able to do something from home, like babysitting, to bring in extra money? You may be able to use some of the resources of the WIC program, which is listed above.

-- Contributed by: HollySwanson

Tiffany, you could check with your local social services organizations and women's centers. They might be able to provide you with some housing assistance until you can get back on your feet. If they can't help, they should at least be able to provide referrals to other organizations in your area that can.

i think this assistance is good for all high risk/regular pregnant moms it really helps because it is really hard for us i hope there will be futher assistance later.

Carol, I'm afraid that you probably don't qualify for any kind of assistance. Even though you work for a company as a contractor, they are not required to offer anything unless you are a full-time employee. Unemployment also won't cover you since you are not being fired or laid off.

Check out our Income During Maternity Leave article or contact your local social services department to see if you qualify for any other programs.
