Girl 22,

hCG levels vary greatly during pregnancy. Normal range for a pregnancy of about 6 weeks is anywhere between 1080-56,000. HCG levels may be elavated in women who have certain types of cancer, but the vast majority of the time it simply indicates pregnancy.

Hello I'm extremely worried since I read something on the internet that elevated hcg levels could mean something else than pregnancy ( like ovarian cancer for example). My last period was on the 8th of May and today it's 22 of June.I had 3 positive home pregnancy tests and one blood test showing that my hcg is 6737.Is the level of hcg too high for how far in the pregnancy I am?I'm still waiting for my doctor's appointment and I'm worried as hell as I was diagnosed with simple ovarian cyst and now my biggest concern is that this simple cyst turned out to be something more serious. Could you please tell me if my hcg level is fine? A replay would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Melina,

it's possible that the higher numbers could indicate twins, but it might be nothing. HCG levels vary greatly in each woman and each pregnancy, so it's hard to make a diagnosis based on the numbers.

It's also possible to have twins in one sac, so you might have two babies that just can't be seen yet. Your doctor will probably plan another ultrasound soon to get a better look at how the pregnancy is developing.

I am 3 weeks on my pregnancy. After having a sharp pain on my left ovary my doctor had me getting a hcg count every other day to be sure that the baby was growing properly. The first test came up with a count of 250. Secont count was of 779 Third count was of 1900 Since the count was increasing more than double every 48 hours then my doctor asked me to have a sonogram because he thought that I could be expecting twins. I had the sonogram done but it only shows one sac and they couldn't see a baby yet. The nursse thinks that it is because I am very early in pregnancy (only 3 weeks). My count of hcg keeps increasing more than double every 48 hours. Can I be expecting twins with only one sac? If it is only one baby then could it be dangerous for the baby the fact that my hcg is increasing more than double ? Thanks,
