Jela, I haven't heard of an oral contraceptive that you take once before having sex. There's the Plan B pill that is taken after sex, but I'm not familiar with anything that's used right before as you mentioned.

Mollie, the side effects in the regular and low dose pills are generally the same.

Lisa,

It's common for some women to experience difficulties when switching between different brands of birth control pills. Even though all bills work basically the same, the hormone levels in each brand are slightly different. If you're still having problems after the first month, however, I'd recommend making another appointment with your healthcare provider.

I had been on Yaz for about 7 months, there were some adverse side effects that I wasn't thrilled about having to deal with, so the doctor switched me to the generic version of Allesse (sp?) called Aviane. I am just finishing the inactive pills of my first month on it, and my period started Tuesday night and today (Friday) is done...but the whole time it has only been spotty...and that is totally unlike my periods, is this normal? While on Yaz, my periods were light, before that, insanely heavy, I've never experienced a period that was all spotting and nothing more...I'm a little confused, and slightly concerned.
