false positives are rare, but one reason could be if you are testing early. You may have had enough detectable HCG in your first morning urine, but not enough in the second. Again, this would usually only happen if you are testing too early, usually before your period is due. You'll need to follow up with your doctor or take another test as a tie breaker.

if both lines showed up, you are pregnant even if it's faint. If you are doubtful of the results, you should take another test or contact your doctor for a Blood-based Pregnancy Test.

yes, you're pregnant. A positive test counts no matter how faint the line may be. Unless the test sat for a while and you noticed the line later, you're pregnant.

if the only time you had unprotected sex was 8 months ago and you've had a period since then, you're not pregnant. On very rare occasions, a woman can be pregnant without realizing it, but there wouldn't be heavy periods with it. Since you think you might have diabetes and you do some of the symptoms, you should definitely see your doctor. You might also want to talk to your doctor about polycystic ovary syndrome, which is also related to heavy periods and weight gain.

I have been having frequent heavy periods but I am paranoid I'm gaining weight in my abdomen area despite the fact I had protected sex 8 months ago and have had two negative pregnancy test results. I have been having all the symptoms like frequent urinating, blood-metallic like taste in my mouth, nausea but I can't help but feel because I'm very overweight so I may mistaking pregnancy for what is diabetes type 2? any help please

Tanya, anytime you have sex without some form of birth control, you could conceive. Even though your period is regular, you will still ovulate at some point. Most pregnancy tests can give an accurate result about two weeks after conception, so try taking a test in two weeks.

i havent had a period in months (or longer) due to medication, and just started having sex again and was wondering if i could be pregnant? how do i know when to take an at home test if i havent had a period in over 6 months? thanks

Sarah, if you got your last period around January 10, your next cycle should have started yesterday, February 8. I'm guessing you go your period sometime before the test, so you are definitely late and should take a test now. Read our When to Take a Pregnancy Test article for more.

you can usually take a pregnancy test the first day your period is due. Taking it before that will usually give you a negative even though you could be pregnant.

Since you started trying to conceive on 12/31, you should be almost due for a period by now. By this weekend you can test.

I bought the first response test yesterday to find out if im pregnant or not...Ive been having unprotected sex since the night I got married on December 31st when can I take a test...my husband and I are going crazy not knowing and really want children!!!

Nichole, two lines means you are pregnant, no matter how faint the one line might be. If you aren't convinced by the results, take another test or contact your doctor for a blood-based pregnancy test.

Wondering, if you got two lines, you are pregnant, no matter how faint the second line is. If you doubt the results, try taking another pregnancy test. You may have just tested a bit too soon to get a stronger reading.

Hoping, as long as you read the test results within the first 10 minutes, a second line mean you are pregnant, no matter how faint the line is. If you doubt the results, wait a few days and test again.

I took the test and accidentally laid on the other side flat instead of the side with the result lines facing up, could this have affected the test to read negative? Please help...

Noi, two lines on a First Response test means you are pregnant, regardless of how faint the line is and since the doctor said you're pregnant, it sounds like you probably are.

Most times, the first two weeks after your last period, leading up to ovulation, are counted as part of your pregnancy, so if you had sex three weeks ago and conceived at that time, you would be about 5 weeks pregnant if you count those other two weeks. It's confusing, but that's how they figure it out.

yesterday i took a pregnancy test at the clinic and the doctor said im 5 weeks pregnant but i had unprotected sex 3 weeks ago and my last period was 6 weeks ago, that doesnt make sense so i decided to see for myself. i used a first response pregnancy test and i got one really dark and one really really light line. is it possible that i am pregnant? because my friend had the same results one dark line and one really really light line and she wasnt pregnant.

Andrea, the darkness of the line doesn't matter, any line in the positive area is a positive result. Sometimes a very faint line could be from evaporation, especially if it's not noticed for about 10 minutes or so,

I just took my First Respons HPT and I was wondering how dark the Positive line has to be in order for me to interpret it as a positive?

Shawna, it's unusual for a woman to not get a positive pregnancy test for so long into her pregnancy, but you are proof that it can happen. I'm glad you were finally able to get a positive test.

What about others like myself who have taken multiple tests for a pregnancy and have had negative results each time? I was 15.5 weeks into my first and only pregnancy before I happened to get a positive result. I didn't have the resources or money to get the blood test done but I had my doctor test as well as used a home test, all were negative until I was in my second trimester. I did test about every week the last month before my positive test.

Nancy, there are a few things that could be happening here. You may have been pregnant, but had an early miscarriage, though you would likely still get a positive result on your test until the pregnancy passes. You might also have had a false result on your test, but whether it was a false positive last week or a false negative, I can't say. You should contact your doctor for another test or take another at home as a tie-breaker.

I took a test last week and saw a very faint line in the positive window. I decided to get a digital test and I took it this morning first thing and it shows not pregnant. I had unprotected sex a little over a month ago. Could I be pregnant or could I have had a chemical pregnancy? I have been cramping really bad like I am going to start my period but I have not had one yet.

Suzi, two lines mean that you are pregnant, no matter how faint it is. If you doubt the results, you can always retest or call your doctor to schedule a Blood-based Pregnancy Test

I had unprotected sex last week, and I'm young, I've never taken a pregnancy test, but I do realize that of course it's too early to tell. The test I took, I left it sit there for numerous minutes and the results window, nothing showed up at all. There was a thick, red line about an inch away from the test window. Really, what I want to know is when should I take a pregnancy test. I usually get my period on the first of the month, the unprotected sex was on the 13th of July. Is the first of August too soon to tell?

M, you would highly unlikely to conceive the same night you got your period. With two negative pregnancy tests taken so far apart, I don't think you are pregnant. If you are really concerned, you could call your OB/GYN or go to a women's clinic for another test, but I don't think you have anything to worry about.

I had uppretected sex(bad idea) the same night I came on my period. a month later I took a test it came back negative. The nest moth I took another one dtill negative. But I think I AM!!!!!! What should I do(I don't want any kids) and I would be 4 moths on the 19th

you'll have to take a second test or visit your doctor. It sounds like your test was defective. Next time, buy a test with two applications so you have a backup.

OK, so I just got married and I think I might be pregnant. I felt funny and so I took a pregnancy test and the second line started out darker and then lightened to where I could barely see it, then I had to look for it to see it, the second line was the bright pink line. So what's going on? I'm a pregnant? Or not?

Virginie, I think you took the test too soon, so you're not seeing accurate results. Although the First Response test can be accurate up to four days before your period, it may not be as effective that far out. The First Response Early Result Pregnancy Test can be taken four days before your period is due with high accuracy.

two lines means she is pregnant, no matter how dark either of them are. If she has doubts, she should take another pregnancy test in a few days or see her doctor for a Blood-based Pregnancy Test.

My daughter has been trying since November 07 to get pregnant , She took a 1st Response ,but, On this Test she has a faint pink line then a dark line, 2 people say No she is not pregnant and 2 others are saying she is, those who say no say the dark line should show 1st then the lite Pink 1, hers is reversed, but, from what the etst stick and instructions read i thought if you see ANY 2 lines your pregnant?

There are plenty of Signs of Pregnancy, like morning sickness, fatigue, and breast tenderness. But, sometimes it's hard to tell, especially since many of these signs could indicate something else, like the flu or an impending period.

Your best bet is to take home pregnancy test. If your period is late, you can take it now. But since you're not sure when you would get it, you might want to wait a week and give it a try.
