Anon,
I can't really comment on the what your previous doctor was thinking, but I'm afraid things can be missed or overlooked often. It's referred to as "failure to diagnosis" and is more common you might think.
The important thing now is that you are being treated for them and have found a good doctor. Good for you for taking the initiative to find another doctor.
-- Contributed by: HollySwansonI'm an African American woman, I have fibroids, and apparently I have had them for *at least* a few years. A few are outside the uterus, and today I just found out that there is a softball-sized one in the cavity of my uterus. I've been seeing an ob/gyn regularly, for years! I recently switched. The new doctor found the large one via a hysteroscopy, whereas, all the other doctor did was a pelvic ultrasound plus a physical "feel" exam, always telling me how "nothing has changed." Now, the situation is very complicated because of both the size and location of the fibroid. How could this possibly have been missed?

a hormonal imbalance can lead to conception and fertility problems, but in many cases can be controlled by medication. Your doctor is the best person to discuss this with however since he or she knows exactly which hormones are affected and how they can be controlled. Good luck!
