Kitty,

it can be very hard to track your cycle if they are irregular. Using an over-the-counter ovulation kit may work in determining your most fertile days.

You might also want to check out our Chinese Lunar Pregnancy Calendar article for more details about the calendar.

What if you have irregular periods ? And i have also heard about a biorhythmic lunar calendar and i know just a little bit about it . But im not sure weather to believe in it or not . has anyone else heard of it ? if so , can you tell me a little more about it ?

Elle, most pregnancy tests should be taken the first day of your missed period or in the days following. A few are accurate before your period is due, but only by a 3-4 days.

As for reading the results, assuming you are taking the Fact Plus stick test, a horizontal line in the result window means you are not pregnant. If you were pregnant, you would see a plus sign there.

If you are testing too early, you will need to take another test when your period is due to be sure you have accurate results.

I'm a little confused, so for one you do have to take it right around or after your next period? And for two what if there is just a horozonal line in the results window??

-- Contributed by: elle

Rhea, the R indicates the results window, which displays a plus or minus sign. Sounds like you have a minus sign, meaning that you are not pregnant. If you doubt the results, you should test again.

HI...I JUST TOOK A FACT PLUS HOME TEST, OF COURSE. AND WAS WONDERING HOW TO READ IT. IT HAS A 'R' THEN A WINDOW WITH ONE LINE ON IT AND THEN ANOTHER WINDOW WITH 'C' ON THE OTHER SIDE OF IT, ALSO WITH A LINE ON IT. HELP!!!

Jackie, if the positive line only showed up after about 10 minutes, it could be an evaporation line, which appears from the stick being wet. If your period isn't due yet, you may be taking the test too soon, but the First Response Early Result Pregnancy Test can be used four days before your period is due.

Ally, if you are taking the tests too early, and you are if your period isn't due yet, you could be seeing a slight positive result based on, as you said, there not being much HCG present yet. The First Response Early Result Pregnancy Test can be taken four days before your period is due to give you a better idea.

I just took 3 tests, and all 3 keep coming back with a very faint positive line, I mean very faint. You actually have to look at it in the sun or near a window to see it. But then I took a First Response and that said no. Now Im not sure what the heck I am.

I took 2 tests, my period isnt late yet but I feel as tho im pregnant. In the result window I got a negative sign with what looked like the starts of a plus sign but its very thin. Almost as if HCG was dected but not alot so it only formed the beginning part of the plus sign. I took 2 tests one fact plus and one store brand and got the same results, does it mean im pregnant or is it a defect in the test? Im really confused I have never had that before on a positive test, the positive part was alway bold.

Mel, it sounds like you got a minus line in the results window, which should indicate that you are not pregnant. But since your period is now late, you should take another test. You may have tested too soon or you might have gotten a false negatives.

if the r window showed - what does it mean? i looked like a line to me but not + so i'm unsure?

Lisa,

All pregnancy tests have one line to indicate that they are working properly. (It's called a control line.) You're not pregnant unless you see a plus sign in the result window.

Brittany,

If you have two positive pregnancy tests, I would say you are probably pregnant. You need to make an appointment with your healthcare provider as soon as possible.

Samesia,

you're pregnant...congrats! The pain is simply a common early signs of pregnancy.

Katie,

the R should indicate the results window. A plus sign there means that you are pregnant.

I have taken 4 home pregnancy test and they all read positive, but I have some abdominal pain what does this mean?

I have a pregnacy test and I did not recieve the instructions. I have a plus sign in the R window and in the C widow there is a straight line can you tell me what this means please.

-- Contributed by: katie

Ashley, there should only be one line in the control window and either a plus or minus sign in the results window. If you have two lines in each window, the test must be invalid and you will need to take another home pregnancy test.

i have two lines in both windows does that mean im pregnant

Tyisha, I think it means you need to retest. There shouldn't be a vertical line...results are either displayed in a horizontal line or a plus sign. Could there be a horizontal line also, but maybe fainter?

A vertical line in the result box means there must be something wrong with the test. Maybe it was defective or old or just put together wrong. In any case, try using a different test, not one from the same box. Good luck!

What does it mean when their is a vertical line in the R (result box)

-- Contributed by: Tyisha

Hi Tiffany, the blue horizontal line means it's negative. Think of it like a "minus" sign. There would be a plus sign if it was positive.

It is sort of odd since most tests show the same thing in the control and results window.

I just used the Fact plus test and the result window shows a blue horizontal line and the control window shows a blue parallel line. Does this mean postivie or negative?

-- Contributed by: Tiffany Scobee

Hi Gena, with some tests, two lines indicate that you are pregnant. Different tests have different possible outcomes, some have a horizontal line in the results window and some have a vertical line. The box or instructions will usually have an example of what a positive reading looks like.

The current Fact Plus Pregnancy tests indicate a pregnancy with a plus sign in the results window. A minus sign, or horizontal line, means you are not pregnant. It sounds like you got a minus sign. But since the test is older and past it's expiration date, you should buy a new test and try again.

I am a bit confused. I had a test from last Feb,2006. Expiration date 3/2008. I took the test today and my results were, a blue line in the control window and the results window. Reading your information states a negative result are indicated by no line in the results window. Are 2 blue lines which are not parallel accurate?

Thanks for letting us know about this, Jane. I've changed the text accordingly.

I'm afraid the FactPlus website has had a redesign since this article was written. Your link to http://www.factplus.com/DuringOverview.cfm no longer works. http://www.factplus.com/FactPlusTestStickHowToUse.cfm is probably the closest match. And the "Reading your results" slideshow isn't available anymore.

I only help run the webserver it lives on, I don't do the site design, so I'm not too sure why this happened: I only know we're getting "missing page" errors that come from this article.

And I'll leave it to others (the original author?) to actually edit the main article, but I hope the information helps.
