I took the Clomid the month I became pregnant. It was also an ectopic pregnancy. Also, I have endometriosis, which after the fact, I found out I should never have been prescribed Clomid to begin with. I wouldn't suggest Clomid to any woman.

I took Clomid when I was 23 after trying for two years to have another baby.I had a three week course of it and had a tubal pregnancy. The doctors said that I was somewhere between 3 and 4 weeks along and I truely believe that the clomid was the cause of it. I had to have my complete tube removed from my right side, and now I have more of a risk of having another tubal..Sadly that was 2 years ago and I have still not been successfull at having another baby.

Sonya and Jackie, I'm sorry to hear about your ectopic pregnancies. Although there is little conclusive evidence for whether Clomid directly causes ectopics, maybe your doctor can recommend other medications that they can try.

I took Clomid for three cycles and my husband and I did get pregnant but unfortunately it was an ectopic pregnancy. I do not have endometriosis and I was only 25 at the time. I do not ovulate regularly but I've always felt that the Clomid had something to do with it. Maybe I just want to blame it on Clomid to make myself feel better, I don't know. My gut feeling at the time and now almost two years later is that Clomid had something to do with it. The strange thing is that when they did the ultrasound to see where the ectopic was located they never actually found it for sure. They thought maybe in my abdomen but did not see anything in my tubes. Weird. They gave me injections of something called Methotrexate (think I spelled that right). So I don't have any ruptured tubes or anything.

I was on clomid for a couple of months, but in november of 2007 I found out I was pregnant, when I went for my ultrasound, I was horrified that the pregnancy was in my tube.

Jacquie,

I am very sorry to hear of your poor experience while on Clomid. However, LoveToKnow Pregnancy has been unable to find any definitive studies saying for certain that Clomid causes ectopic pregnancies because so many women who take Clomid have other medical conditions that already increase the risk of an ectopic pregnancy. If you believe you were given Clomid inappropriately, I would suggest seeking a second and/or third medical opinion before pursuing any legal action.

I am looking for info. My doctor had me on clomid for 6 months, maybe more, I would have to check. It was a terrible failure and I quit it. 2 months later I was thrilled to find out i was pregnant. Then rushed to the hospital from work. I died 3 times that day, while they tried desperately to stabilize me for surgery. My ectopic had ruptured, i just want to know what information I should have been given before this. i would do anything to go back and change that day if i could. The desperation of wanting a baby made me trust the drug companies and may doctor.i think now i should have made these inquiries earlier. Is anything being done to stop this drug company/

Hi Ectopics...

Women who take Clomid have had trouble conceiving, which increases your risk for an ectopic pregnancy by itself. For example, many women with endometriosis are prescribe Clomid, but those same women are already at a higher risk of a tubal pregnancy. Ectopic pregnancies are also more likier to occur in women over 35, which is another population more likely to be on fertility drugs.

So far, there is no definitive connection between Clomid and ectopic pregnancy, but that doesn't mean it isn't there. It's hard to say for sure since many of the same women who take Clomid are already at a greater risk of ectopic pregnancy.

All of the women I've ever known in real life, or online that have had ectopics (myself included) were on Clomid.

Hi I just wanted all you guys to know that your not alone.. I too suffered a terrible loss while using clomid. I coulnt get prego for over two years so I started clomid 100mgs and got preg. off the first month of using. We were sooooooo happy. but 6 weeks later nothing but severe pain. Went in to the doctors office and got a scan there the baby was in my right tube. Well, I lost my baby and tube. what a TERRIBLE heart break.. So, if you dont need clomid dont take it..... just let god deside what is right for you... If you believe, in his time, he will give you your hearts desire... until then...........stay strong and dont give up.... god bless all of you who have suffered loosing babies....

Hi B, I'm sorry to hear about your miscarriage. For many women, Clomid is a positive experience that helps them become pregnant, but you do highlight one of the unfortunate side effects. Although ectopic pregnancies only happen in about 2 percent of Clomid-related pregnancies, that's a high number if you are part of the percentage.

Hi, My husband and i had no luck after 9 months of trying to fall pregnant. I finally got into to see an obgyn and after 2 months of taking clomid, I fell pregnant. From day 28 in my cycle I experienced cramping (like you would at the beginning of a period). In my 7th week I began bleeding and sought medical help, I ended up taking myself to emergency because no one was taking me seriously and kept telling me not to worry, that it was normal and just go home to rest. Finally I was given ultra sounds along with the devastating news that my pregnancy was ectopic. None of the causes for an ectopic pregnancy apply to me other than the fact that I had been taking clomid....so this is what I am putting it down to. Sure this drug helped me to conceive, but seriously, I would prefer to have not conceived at all that to go thru this...I would like to tell any couple who are considering taking this medication to think about it first...If it is not absolutely crutial that you take it, dont take it...I have found myself heart broken that this could happen to me. We now have to wait 3 months before even thinking about trying again (that feels like a life time!!)
