Cathy, you will need to contact your local HRDC office for advice on this. I think your maternity benefits should last through the end of the year, but I can't say for sure since the law is complicated and is often influenced by the regulations of individual companies.
You can find phone numbers for reaching that office through this link. They may not be able to answer your question, but they should be able to find someone who can.
-- Contributed by: HollySwansoni live in BC, i'm on my maternity leave, and my maternity benefit will be finish by the end of this year, but today, dec 12, i receive the lay off letter from my employer. is there any law to protect worker during maternity leave? my employer will pay me the long team service, ( soon i guess)but today i check my EI account, my benefit was stop at Dec 12. that doesn't sound right for me, cuz don't have a job yet, the money that company buy me out, ( i think i should deserve to get it) because i been work there for more than 10 yrs. also i check my EI message, it said: i'm back to work soon, that's why they stop pay me.... can someone help me to ans my question please

though it may not seem fair, leave and benefits are determined by individual governments based on what the legislature feels is the norm for that area. Maybe your province will have good benefits. If not, you can contact your government and suggest that they change to get on par with the other provinces.
-- Contributed by: HollySwansonHow much maternity leave I get depends on the providence in which I reside? Hmm...is God's law different in different places?
-- Contributed by: lynnRJ,
I just looked this up and found answers ranging from $3,000-$10,000. A lot would depend on what kind of care is needed including whether you would need a C-section or if your baby needs any follow-up treatment.
If you have insurance, some of this may be covered. Your insurance company may have preferred physicians and hospitals that it would like you to go to if you do go into labor while you are there, so check with them before you plan your trip.

-- Contributed by: HollySwansonI was on maternity leave in 2006 and am now being told that I owe income tax of over $1000.00. I had no other income myself and my husband only filed $29,000.00. I was receiving approx $900.00 per month while on leave and am outright p'd off that I have to pay this. Is this right???
-- Contributed by: BoonuttbudderHi Jadeep, that's a good question and it's one that the experts will need to answer for you. You should be eligible if you have at least 600 insured hours over the past year and your earnings have decreased by more than 40 percent. But, if you're not directly contributing to EI, you may not qualify for benefits.
During the week, you can contact the EI offices between 8:30am-4:30pm at 1-800-206-7218 and press "0" to speak to a representative. Tell that person your whole history and they should be able to advise you.
Good luck! Please let us know how it turns out.
