Maryh,

do you have a family history of early menopause? Many doctors say the best indicator for when you will start menopause is when your mom started. Since it sounds like you are being closely followed by doctors and have recently had blood work, I don't think there is anything unusual happening to you. But you should definitely mention the spotting to your doctor at your next visit.

I am 40 years old and am experiencing some spotting every other month. The spotting begins when I ovulate and carries over until a few days before my next period. Its only enough to warrant a panty liner or ruin my underwear. I tied my tubes exactly 2 years ago after my 3rd child. I do not take anything but synthroid and recent lab work indicates I am WNL for all thryroid functions. Any suggestions? I had a hyst/lap/dc 4 years ago and everything seemed ok then. I have horrendous periods that last 7 days, so this extra "bonus" is annoying. I would love to think it is pre-menopausal, yes?

Irene,

pain from ovulation can happen over a few days, so the pain doesn't necessarily mean that you released two eggs. As for the spotting, it can be both brown and red, but is usually only a very small amount. There are plenty of reasons for mid-cycle spotting and it might just be a sign of an early period. When your period is due, you should take a home pregnancy test or follow up with your doctor.

Hi, i'm 26 and i have fairly regular cycles 27 - 30day (if i'm stressed). I have been charting my cycles for quite some time and i know that i'm ovulating right now. However, i have been experiencing spotting for about 2 days now. Mostly brown, but some of it if fresh and red among the fertile vaginal discharge. It's no continuous, it comes and goes. I did feel pain in my lower abdomen twice, as if i had released two eggs, this time, once on sunday and then yesterday. I've only experience spotting during ovulation once before, in july. Prior to that it's never happened to my knowledge. I began being sexual active with a partner, who has had no previous sexual partners, in august, after abstaining for approximately 5 years. I'm not sure if i should be worried, as i'm not sure if this is an abnormal amount of spotting. thanks.

Anna, it's more likely that you are ovulating or are having some breakthrough spottiing. Since you just had a period, it's too soon for another one unless your cycle is really off. If you are still spotting or if there is any change, contact your doctor.

Hi I am 25 yrs old and have PCOS I am curretnly taking Metformin to become pregnant.I started taking it on 9/11/09 and on 9/22/09 i woke up and got in the shower got out and while drying off I looked down and there was a little bit of blood on the floor (i just that a period had started) so i put on a thin pad and headed to out of the house, came home late and I was only light bleeding when I wiped after using the bathroom (it was a very light pink color) then later on that day it stopped so today 9/23/09 I got up and used the bathroom no bleeding came home a little while ago and now I am light bleeding but only when I wipe. Does this mean I am ovulating or getting realy to have a period?????

-- Contributed by: Anna

FAA,

you will need to discuss treatment options with your physician. Make sure they understand that you are actively interested in conceiving. Having a septate uterus can increase your chances of having a miscarriage or preterm labor, so once you do conceive, your doctor will likely want to follow you closely.

hi, I'm 23 years old married lady, I complain of heavy period with mid cycle bleeding since the the bigning of my menstruantion when I was 11 years old, after many investigations the US showed that I have septate uterus. now I don't recive any medication and I want to get pregnant .help me

Amy, it sounds like you have or are about to ovulate. I don't really like the OPK readouts because it can be hard to interpret when it's positive. But since the timing is right and you got an almost-positive, I think you've ovulated.

Anastasia, many women experience ovulation-related bleeding around 2 weeks after their period. It is normal and isn't anything to worry about. But if the bleeding continues on and off during the month or gets heavy, you should mention it to your doctor.

-- Contributed by: HollySwanson

I started this last cycle June 18th and it lasted throught the 22nd. Yesterday I noticed that I had some brown spotting, and today CD14 that the spotting is more pinkish red when I wipe and there is a little on panty liner...OPK from yesterday was VERY close to being positive, and my BBT this morning was .4 degrees higher than yesterday??? Is this normal???

I experienced bleeding 15 days after my period may and now june 27 after my menstruation on the 13 of june, i'm experiencing the same thing again.this bleeding lasted for 3 days.is it normal.

Dani,

the light spotting is probably a sign of ovulation ], which can happen even in a woman who has never noticed it before. Since your periods are irregular, you might want to start using a ovulation predictor so you can get a better idea of when you are most fertile.

I have very heavy, long periods, that I never know when are gonna start. They come every 30 to 35 days, sometimes longer, and last for about 7 days. Ive never spotted before, between periods, but this month I am. I started my cycle on June 5th, and exactly two weeks later, im having very light spotting. This started on friday. It usually is gone by the end of the day, but a little heavier in the mornings. Is this because Im ovulating? And why is it starting now? Im 24 and have two beautiful children, and my husband and I are trying to have one more, soon. And thoughts?

you should really talk to your OB/Gyn about this. Since you don't have a regular cycle, it will be difficult for you to conceive just by trying to time your intercourse. You may need to be tested a few times to see if you have a normal ovulation and your doctor may want to check you to find the source of the irregular bleeding.

My Menstrual bleeding last for 5-6 day's, five day's after i bleed a small amount for another 5 day's, on the last day i useully have a strong pain. Then two week later i have my Menstrual bleeding again. i dont know when am ovulating and it's hard to meet my husband with all the blood. can you help?

Jennifer,

how long after your period did the spotting occur? If it happened about two weeks later, it's probably related to ovulation, which means this is a good time for you to try to conceive.

-- Contributed by: HollySwanson

i had my period and now i am spotting a pink color, could i be pregnant?

-- Contributed by: Jennifer

Sunshinehill,

many women experience the symptoms you mention. If they are getting worse or are interferring with daily life, your doctor might be able to give you medicine to help with the side effects. If you are not trying to get pregnant, you could also consider going on the pill, which would stop your ovulation.

But to answer your question, yes, it happens a lot to many of us.

So 6 months ago, I started bleeding during ovulation. It happens every other month. Painful cramps, painful boobs for a week previous, then bleeding. It lasts 2-3 days, very light. My doctor said the first time it was normal. Anyone else out there have the same?

-- Contributed by: sunshinehill

Chispa, the bleeding you describe is unusual and should be evaluated by a doctor. I don't think it's related to ovulation, because as you point out, it lasts much longer and is heavy. You might have some medical condition that needs to be treated or you might need to go back on birth control to stop the bleeding.

-- Contributed by: HollySwanson

I forgot to mention that what seem sto be the mid-cycle bleeding, is not that light like to be absorbed by a pantyliner, no! rihjt now i'm using a regular size pad. Also, for what i have seen, it does not last for 1-2 days, no!! it goes aroung 4-5 days... similar to my menstrual period... which regularly is 5-6 days...

-- Contributed by: chispa

hi, i was using contraceptive shots, and I stopped using it on January. We are on May and since then i've been bleeding twice a month. I suposse it is due to a mid-cycle bleeding, but before i started using these contraceptives, I only bled during the period (just once). DO you have any advise... i'm tired of bleeding twice in a month! even after i stop bleeding during ovulation i inmediatly start bleeding for the menstrual period, and i always had between 5-6 days of menstrual period!!! HELP!!

-- Contributed by: chispa

Enter,

it's not typical, but cycles can vary each month and you might just be having some mid-cycle spotting. It might be a sign of ovulation, but that would mean that you ovulated today, not last weekend. If you don't conceive this month, you might want to try using an ovulation predictor kit next month because you might ovulate later than you expect.

-- Contributed by: HollySwanson

We are trying for a baby and my ovulation dates that we worked out was the weekend just gone its only wednesday and ive started bleeding this is very unusual for me and was wondering if it was normal to bleed 3 days after ovulation?

-- Contributed by: Enter your name here

Lena, women with regular cycles ovulate two weeks before their period is due. Since a usual cycle is 28 days long, it also works out to be about two weeks after your period. In most cases, a woman won't get a period until she ovulates.

-- Contributed by: HollySwanson

Can you ovulation two weeks after your last period and not after your first?

-- Contributed by: lena

Cynthia,

since you are about two weeks out from your last period, this is likely a sign of ovulation, so you will want to use a backup form of birth control for the month. If you seem to ovulate again next month, you might need to talk with your doctor about using a different form of birth control.

-- Contributed by: HollySwanson

I am on the birth control patch and I have been on it for a yr already. I have not experienced any abnormalities but this month I had my cycle 3/5 and today I am spotting? Is it implantation or just ovulation bleeding? PLEASE HELP!!

-- Contributed by: Cynthia

Amy,

you are right on track to be ovulating now, so the bleeding may be have been from that. Usually, it's a pretty short and light bleed when it's related to ovulation, so if there was a lot it might be from something else. On two weeks, you can take a pregnancy test to see if you conceived, but if the bleeding continues to happen during intercourse, talk to your doctor.

-- Contributed by: HollySwanson

My husband and I are trying to have a baby. We had sex last night, and I was bleeding during sex. I had my period on the 4th of this month. I woke up this morning and I was not bleeding anymore. Is this ovulation bleeding? HELP PLEASE!

-- Contributed by: amy

Jacqueline, it depends on what's causing the mid-cycle bleeding. If it's from ovulation, it should only be a light spotting that lasts 1-2 days. If you are from some other reason, it might last longer. If you have unexplained bleeding that is heavy and lasts for more than a few days, contact your Ob/Gyn.

-- Contributed by: HollySwanson

For how long does it take for mid-cycle bleeding to stop?

-- Contributed by: Jacqueline

Judith, since your last period was 1/24, you likely ovulated around February 7, assuming you have a regular cycle of 28 days. So Febryary 6-8 are probably the most fertile days of this month. If you had intercourse during that time, you may have conceived and should be able to test soon since your next period is due now.

-- Contributed by: HollySwanson

during sexual intercourse during is month i am having , is here a concern ? thank you it happened twice/ i sw my period on 24/1/09 when is my fertity days

-- Contributed by: judith richards

Lorrie, although you don't really want to, you should take a pregnancy test. It's better to be disappointed and know for sure than to be pregnant and not know. If you haven't taken a test during the last few cycles, you might have already been pregnant but had an early miscarriage. Your current cycle isn't really affected by the one before so you wouldn't be having a heavier period due to previously light one.

-- Contributed by: HollySwanson

Amy, it's probably a good idea to contact your doctor, especially if it's heavier than a light spotting. Some spotting can be normal with ovulation but with your history of cysts, your doctor might want to examine you.

hi, i have been trying for a baby for almost 2 years now and i have always had a regular period. last month on day 14 i started bleeding it was like a period, my period 14days earlier was short and light lasting only 2 days, this mid cycle bleed lasted 5 days and was heavy. i have been really tired and this week i have had a very sore stomach, im now not sure when my period is due. is it due from my last mid cycle bleed or my previous. im so confused and i dont want to take a test because of all the disapointment in the past ! i would appreciate any help or advice x

Two cycles ago i ended up in hospital with severe pain in my right side. It turned out to be a hemorrhagic cyst. The pain lasted for over a week, 2 days of which i was in hospital.

This cycle im now experiencing a bleed, and i know its ovulation time as i do experience pain during ovulation. Ive never bled before though. Is this something i should worry about because of the cyst problem? Or could it be normal?

Thanks

Emilee,

it sounds like you might have secondary infertility. Many woman have one pregnancy but find themselves unable to get pregnant a second time. Your doctor doesn't sound like he's being helpful, so you might want to see someone else to visit a fertility clinic. Make sure they know that you have been activing trying without success.

There is also the Fertell Fertility Test, which is an at-home test that may shed some light on a fertility problem.

I frequently bleed during ovulation, sometimes bad enough that I have to wear a pantyliner. I've been trying to get pregnant for 2 years and nothing. Because we have a healthy 3 year old My doctor says I'm fine. I wish I could believe him. What should I do?

-- Contributed by: Emilee

Jacqueline, spotting during ovulation is normal for many women, regardless of taking the metformin. If the bleeding is bad or continues for several days, contact your doctor.

-- Contributed by: HollySwanson

Pamela, your body will likely need a at least a few weeks to return to a normal cycle after a miscarriage, so the bleeding isn't unusual. If it continues or if it seems like you are having longer or heavy periods without a break in between, call your doctor.

Through temping, my OB/GYN thought I wasn't ovulating regularly. She put me on Clomid 50mg for 2 cycles and didn't see ovulation through the temp charts. Then 100mg for 2 cycles, in which she saw a possible ovulation once. Numerous tests later, I was sent to a RE. The RE put me on Clomid 100mg and monitored my ovulation more closely through bloodtests and predictor kits. I ovulated 3 clomid cycles with the RE and had 3 IUI's with HCG shots. I had a great # of mature follicles, great progesterone levels... The only way my cycle could have been more perfect was if I actually got pregnant. Hopefully, my body has fixed itself. I have to think positive.

-- Contributed by: KatieR

KatieR, fertility is so frustrating since our bodies do what they want, sometimes with no rhyme or reason. It's possible that you had ovulation problems in the past that are now resolved, though your doctors should have picked up on it. Hopefully, you are now ovulating regularly and will be able to conceive. You might want to use an ovulation predictor to know for sure if you are ovulating regularly.

-- Contributed by: HollySwanson

I was on Birth Control for 5 years. We've been trying to get pregnant for 2 1/2 years now and I have had 6 rounds of Clomid, HCG shots, 3 IUI's, numerous tests-no pregnancy. The only diagnosis(if you can call it that) is "Unexplained Infertility." I haven't had any fertility treatment since May of this year. Ever since I stopped taking the pill, I've felt mid cycle cramping. My last 2 cycles I have had light flow to spotting for 2-3 days with cramps at about 14-15 days into my cycle. I understand this may be caused by ovulation, but why would my cycles just start to do that? I made an appointment with my OB/GYN but it's not until December.

-- Contributed by: KatieR

Stefanie, it is possible that the spotting you notice is related to ovulation. Not all women bleed during ovulation and, even if they do, it may not be heavy enough to notice. But if you have no reason to suspect anything else, it is likely ovulation.

Mrsmckee, some women do experience bleeding during ovulation, but it is usually a light spotting. If your bleeding was heavier, you may have gotten an early period this month. You don't mention how far along you were when you miscarried, but it's not unusual for a woman's cycle to be a bit irregular for a few months after a miscarriage.

Iam 32 and my hubby and I are trying to conceive I m/c in july and last month we have been trying again we had intercourse on the 3 times this month and I was supposed to start my period on the 21st and I started bleeding on the 7th which is when I normally ovulate I wanted to know what could this mean

-- Contributed by: mrsmckee

Spotter, have you ever used an ovulation predictor to know exactly when you ovulate? It's possible that you ovulate later during the month and that's why spot.

-- Contributed by: HollySwanson

Hi, my hubby and I are trying to conceive (we're both 28) and every cycle I spot about a week before my period. It's pretty frustrating, and I think it's the reason I haven't conceived yet (been trying for a year). This month, however, I had a bit of blood when I ovulated (just a few days ago), which is not usual for me. Could this be a sign that I had a "stronger" ovulation, and am more likely to conceive?

-- Contributed by: spotter

Maggie, although not all women experience bleeding during ovulation, it would occur about 14 days after your period started. Since your cycle is regular, I think the bleeding you noticed happened too late. But you're right, it might be a good idea to talk to your doctor about how to detect ovulation. It's also a good idea to take a pregnancy test when your next period is due.

-- Contributed by: HollySwanson

I'm confused too! We're trying for our second baby... I currently have some irregular bleeding which is heavier after sex, this has gone on for 10 days now (it started only 19 days after the start of my previous period). Is this what you would call bleeding during ovulation or simply irregular bleeding? I have always had a regular 28 day cycle with nothing out of the ordinary in between. I think it might be time to visit the dr. as ovulation is getting increasingly hard to detect. What do you think?

-- Contributed by: Maggie

Kate, although your doctor is right that you can start trying to conceive right away, it can take a few months for your body to get back on track and for you to ovulate regularly. Even when you do ovulate as expected and time intercourse for the right time of the month, conception isn't guaranteed to occur. There are a lot of other factors that can prevent you from conceiving, but it doesn't mean anything is wrong, you'll simply have to try again.

I am so confused! I have just had my IUD removed to start trying for my second child. The IUD was removed on the 1st of July-08, and I was under the impression ( from my doctor) that I could start right away so I started tracking my ovulation, My last or what seemed to be a period started the 5th of July...I would ovulate the week of the 14th-19th. We had sex 3 of those days and I was certian we were on track to our next bundle of joy....except on the 20th I experenced light spotting that I thought may just be mid cycle bleeding then to my dissapointment I have today HAD a period or what feels like the real deal with light craming and red bleeding. How could I be this far off???? Please tell me what you think.

-- Contributed by: Kate S.

Carmel, with your period on June 19, you would probably ovulate around July 3 if your cycle is regular. The spotting you notice might be related to ovulation, but the exercises probably don't have anything to do with it.

I gave birth to my second child in April and had my first period the 16th of may and again the 19th 0f June and now i'm having slight spotting?could this be due to ovulating as i've never had it before, also i've been doing my pelvic floor excersises and wonder if thats the cause,i would really apreciate your advice.

Jessie,

implantation bleeding usually occurs 7-10 days after conception, so it would be too early to see it on Day 12. It's more likely that you were ovulating on day 12.

-- Contributed by: HollySwanson

Nadene,

with your period starting on June 9, you were probably ovulating around the 23, but since it sounds like your cycle is a bit irregular, the 21st wouldn't be out of the question for your time to ovulate. I suspect that's what the spotting is from.

If you're worried about it or you start having other symptoms or the spotting doesn't stop, call your doctor.

-- Contributed by: HollySwanson

Shirley,

abnormal bleeding can be a side effect of taking Clomid and should be reported to your doctor. If you were actively trying to conceive this month or had IVF or intrauterine insemination, you may be noticing implantation bleeding. Since you don't know for sure what it is, call you doctor and have her exam you.

I'm wondering if I'm possibly mistaking ovulation bleeding for implantation bleeding. I had sex on days 9 and 10 of my cycle. On Day 12 I had a pinkish/purple and then the next two days it was thick and light brown. Now it's day 17. ....I have been told in the past I ovulated as early as day 10. Can implantation bleeding happen so quickly, or is that a sign I'm not pregnant?

I got my period as normal on June,9,2008. It lasted for 6 days then on the 21st I started spoting. What can be the cause for this? I also think that on that date of the spotting was the first day of my ovulation. I had a miscarriage in February, 6, 2008. I had acycle of 33 days now it is back to 28 days. Please tell what is a professional opinion. Nadene.

Deanne, it's good that you are following up with your doc since this is pretty confusing. The simplest answer is that you are having an irregular cycle (or two). But you might also be having a very early miscarriage. Did you take any pregnancy test in the past few weeks?

-- Contributed by: HollySwanson

Tammy, I know you're anxious to know if you are pregnant, but there's really nothing to do but wait. The symptoms you have could be early signs of pregnancy but that might also be related to your cycle.

The First Response Early Result Pregnancy Test can be taked four days before your period is due, giving you the news a little sooner.

Hi! This article was super handy. I have a call into my doctor already but have a few questions. First off, my periods are always exactly 28 days apart. My hubby and I have been trying to conceive #2 for 7 cycles now. I am 21, hubby is 22. We have a 9 month old little boy already. My period started on the 19th (cycle day 27) and lasted for 5 days. It was a very odd period, not as heavy as it normally is, but moderately heavy. Cycle days 3 and 4 (21st and 22nd) I took soy isoflavones. On the 23rd, 24th, and 25th of June we had sex once my period was gone. Today at 3:15p I got home and noticed that I was bleeding again. My back has been sore for the last three weeks, I have felt nauseous for the last three weeks, and I am super tired. Could this be my period coming back??

-- Contributed by: Deanne

Ok...now I'm curious...one odd thing for me this past month: I usually get discharge and the real "jello-y", egg-white mucus around ovulation (23 - 28 June). I haven't noticed any AT ALL this week, and I am expected to get my period on the 11th of July. I know that increased discharge can be an early sign of pregnancy, but what about none?? Might be my imagination, but I have felt just slightly nauseous yesterday and today, every so often. Could these all be early signs???

-- Contributed by: Tammy

Tammy, if you are ovulating today, the blood you noticed is probably related to that. Implantation bleeding doesn't usually occur until at least a week after you ovulate and conceive so it's too early for that.

In another two weeks when your period is due, you can take a pregnancy test to find out for sure. Good luck.

-- Contributed by: HollySwanson

Ok -- Here goes. This is my first time posting a comment to a website. Today is my 1st scheduled day of ovulation and I noticed some pinkish spotting when I went to the restroom. Is this considered the mid-cycle bleeding, even though my ovulation just started? Also, my husband and I had intercourse on Monday morning (12:30 AM), could I be pregnant and it's the egg attaching to my uterine wall? Or is it too soon to tell? I really want to be pregnant, this would be my second child.

-- Contributed by: Tammy

Guddy, have you seen a doctor for help with fertility? Your husband's diagnosis of azoospermia means that he does not have any sperm in his ejaculate, so you would not be able to conceive through intercourse. Your husband will need to find out of this is a permanent issue and you may need to consider using donor sperm.

-- Contributed by: HollySwanson

on march 20th it was my 14th day after my menstruals and it strated bleeding due to which we could not have intercourse . we are planning to have a baby but by husband has azoospermia.. im afraid this kind of ovulatory bleeding or d azoospermia wont let me conceive..

Bec,

It's hard to say what could be causing your conception difficulties, so it's really best to discuss this issue with your healthcare provider. However, chlamydia doesn't cause infertility unless it is left untreated.

My husband and I are trying to have a baby but have found it difficult. I am under a lot of stress and have noticed I bleed when I am supposed to be ovulating. It usually is light but sometimes has been like a regular period. I already have two kids so i am finding it odd that me and my new husband haven't conceived. I am seeing the doc tomorrow but i wanted advice from elsewhere as well.i was treated for chlamydia with my second child. ironically my husband was infected by this too with his first wife. Is it possible that i am no longer ovulating? I am currently std free and have been since i left the SOB!

Alyssa, since you got your period on January 24, you should have ovulated around February 14. So the good news is that you are probably not pregnant since you wouldn't have conceived on February 3.

But since you just came off the pill, your cycle may be irregular for a while. The bleeding on the 12th and 15th could have been related to ovulation, but the 9th was probably too early. Basically, I don't really know what's causing this, but if you are concerned and don't feel comfortable with your doctor's advice, make an appointment to see someone else.

My last menstrual cycle was on the 24-31 of Jan; the 31'st was my last day on the birth control pill. The last time my spouse and I had intercourse was on Feb 3; the condom broke. On Feb 4-8 i was having pains in my abdomen; I was carrying & moving boxes on Feb 6-8. On Feb 9 I started bleeding bright blood in the night. The next day the pain was worse; I could hardly walk. Then I bleed on Feb 12 & Feb 15. I am still having pains here and there. I went to the doctor & he told me to wait it out until my next period comes along. The thing is that I am scared to wait and I want to know what's really going on because I don't want to get an infection in my uterus........so please someone who knows; tell me what's going on?

-- Contributed by: Alyssa

Susan, I'm not sure the timing of when you had sex to when you noticed the blood, but is it possible you bleed from having intercourse since it had been awhile? If you ovulated over the weekend and conceived during that time, this would probably be too early for it to be implantation bleeding.

If your Gyn doesn't have any more definitive answers for you, you can take the First Response Early Result Pregnancy Test four days before your period is due.

I have been using an ovulation guides and know that I was ovulating this past weekend. My husband came home on leave and we had sex for the fist time in 2 months. I noticed yesterday just a little blood when I wiped, this has never happened to me before and I was wondering if this could be a sign that I could possibly be pregnant. I know it's too early to tell if I was or not with over the counter test. Just needing to know why that would happen. I have an appt. tomorrow with my ob/gyn for a fertility check-up. If anyone could help me out I would appreciate it.

Rebekah,

if the bleeding is light, it might be a sign of ovulation, which is perfectly normal. Women usually ovulate around day 14, but you might just be a few days early.

-- Contributed by: HollySwanson

I have light pink bleeding when I wipe... It is day 12 of my cycle. Is this normal?

-- Contributed by: Rebekah

Anon,

women normally ovulate about 14 days after their period, but since your cycle is relatively new, it reasonable for you to be ovulating a little bit earlier. So, yes, this could be ovulation-related bleeding.

If the bleeding continues or increases, you might want to see a doctor to make sure everything is normal. But a small amount of bleeding isn't anything to worry about.

Hi, I am twelve and I got my first period in october. It was normal, although not regular. I just got off of my 4th period ten days ago, and now I see just a tiny bit of blood since yesterday. Could I be ovulating? Is it an infection? I am not now nor have I ever been sexually active or on the pill. I dont know if I should go to the doctor or what. Please help me.

Emma, it could be ovulation bleeding since that would have been around the right time. Every cycle is different, so it is possible to notice ovulation one month.

But you're right, it could also have been implantation bleeding if you ovulated early this month. It's still a little bit early to test, but you can take the First Response Early Result Pregnancy Test four days before your period is due. Some woman do experience early signs of pregnancy within the first few weeks.

My periods are like clockwork, I get them every 29 days, I always know the day they will start. My last period was on the 5th of January 08, a bit over a week later I had unprotected intercourse with my fiance, 6 days later I had very light pinkish spotting that i could only see on toilet paper that lasted 2 days on and off. I understand that this could be ovulation bleeding but I have never had this before and it seems strange it is a week after we made love. is it possibe that I ovulated early and got pregnant and the bleeding was implantation bleeding? Sometimes I feel pregnant. Is it possible to also feel nauseus from food smells at 3 weeks?

Sara,

as you mentioned, I suspect the discharge is simply related to ovulation, the body temperature fluctuations are also probably an indicator that you are ovulating. Many women don't know when they are ovulating, but this is a great tool you have to be able to tell when you are ovulating.

I am 19 and have been sexually active for the last yr. For the past 2 yrs i have had a red/brown discharge around the time i ovulate. is it because of ovulation considering i wasnt sexually active when it started. Everything else is fine, I've never had unprotected sex, no pain etc and at all other times my discharge is normal - clear, odour free, not too heavy or light. I started my period when i was 14 and for up until 2 yrs ago i didnt really experience this, could it be due to fluctuating hormone levels as I am still growing a bit height wise. its not unexpected bleding, i can tell when its gonna happen, i also have a higher body temp at this time - ovulation? any help appreciated.

Becky,

there isn't really a norm for ovulation bleeding. Many women don't bleed at all. It sounds like the blood you mention is probably too much to be from ovulation. Could it be an early period or possibly implantation bleeding?

hi i am trying to concieve and have never taking birth control. i am ovulating at the moment and i just been to the toliet and i had a lot of discharge a small dark red clot, a small amount of red blood and quite abit of brown. what do you think this is? does it seem like normal ovulation bleeding?

-- Contributed by: becky

Hi ee,

taking the birth control pill prevents your body from ovulating, which is when you release an egg. It does not stop a pregnancy that has already happened, rather it prevents one from taking place by making sure that there is no egg that can be fertilized.

There is a pill that can end an unwanted pregnancy that has already been conceived, but it's only available through a clinic or abortion provider. The birth control pill does not end a pregnancy.

what exactly happens in your body when you take the pill? someone told me in a different kind of pill that the egg is still fertiziled and yet the pill takes care of the fertizeled egga and destroys it..is that true, and if no, what happens?

Teresa,

bleeding during ovulation often happens right before you actually ovulate, so you probably didn't miss your chance to conceive, in fact, if the bleeding was ovulation related you may have had intercourse at just the right time.

But the bleeding might also have been some mid-cycle spotting or even related to having sex. The best way to know if you are ovulating is to use ovulation predictors, which will let you know when you are going to ovulate. It may be too late for you to use that this month, but if you are not pregnant you can try it during your next cycle.

what if we had sex and then I noticed a very light ink spotting...could be around ovulation time, but I'm not sure b/c I'm EXTREMELY irregular (sometimes 6 or 7 weeks later than a "normal" period). Anyway it's been a little over 2 weeks since the 1st day of my last period & we had sex this morning & I noticed very light bleeding, but no other bleeding since this morning. Could this be ovulation bleeding?? Does this mean I am about to ovulate or did we miss our chance to concieve? This has happened before, but I've never been trying to get pregnant before & I never questioned it or cared about it until today. Please help. Thanks!

Melissa,

you would normally want to plan intercourse for a day or two before you notice the ovulation bleeding, but the bleeding often happens right before you ovulate. So the bleeding could be a sign that ovulation is about to happen, not that it already did.

Basically, you didn't necessarily miss your chance.

If my husband and I have sex while I am having ovulation bleeding did we miss our chance to concieve?

Beth,

it's way to early to tell right now, but you may be experiencing ovulation bleeding, implantation bleeding, or just some mid-cycle spotting. Wait another week or two and try a test then. Good luck!

I am a 39 year old woman with a 31 year old mate..we would love to have a baby. I used the first response ovulation kit, and on the day it said for sure I was ovulating, we where sexual the day before and after..a few days later I experienced light bleeding and than what seemed like I started my period? Do you think I could be pregnant if so, when should I test..if not why would the LH surge have been so positive and than the bleeding?

-- Contributed by: Beth

Hi Trea,

this would be an odd time for you to have ovulation bleeding, but it's possible your period could be irregular this month. Keep in mind that some herbs could affect your cycle and that could be causing some of the spotting.

Wish I could be more helpful. Maybe this is just the start of a light period.

You talked about ovulation bleeding. I am on 23rd day of my cycle and I started to bleed lightly 2 days ago. I only notice it when I used the bathroom and it isn't all the time. I haven't a Surge yet on my predicator kit. I am wondering if this another cycle of like you said ovulation bleeding. I have never experience this before. I just started natural herbs on 3rd of October.

Gina, some people recommend timing intercourse for right around ovulation if you want to have a boy and a few days before ovulation if you want a girl. If you're not picky, have sex today since you are ovulating right now. Good luck!

This month was the first time I have had any ovulation spotting. I have been charting ovulation for months. It started when I was expecting to ovulate. Are we supposed to have sex during this time? Or should we do this just before or just after? I started spotting (light and brown) yesterday and it's still happening today. I am just wondering what we are supposed to do at his point. I have an OB/Gyn appt on Tuesday. But by the it will definately be too late. We did have sex the day before spotting and was planning for today as well, but we aren't sure what we are supposed to do

Spotting can happen for many different reasons, and even for no reasons at all. If your periods are regular and the bleeding you had happened around two weeks after your last period, you should assume that you ovulated during that time and that's when you were fertile.

But, if your period is late or irregular, you may want to talk to your doctor about other Signs of Ovulation or consider using an Ovulation Predictors

I spotted once on the 3rd of this month and once on the 4th, could these two separate instances be the first and second drop of estrogen? If so when would my fertile days have been?

-- Contributed by: triquetra

I think that would depend on how long ago someone had it, what type of treatment was used, and what, if any, lasting effects there are. This is a topic that definitely needs to be brought up with your doctor.
