Johnson, I don't know the name of the pill, but your doctor should be able to give you anther prescription if you need it. Your doctor will probably want to give you a pregnancy test before giving you the pills to make sure you haven't conceived since coming off the shot.

I took the depo shot once and didn't go back for my second dose. I haven't had my period. I know last time the doctor gave me some pills to take to make me bleed out first before getting back on the shot. Can you tell me the name of that pill.

Enter, it will be up to your doctor. They may want you to sign a paper that states you are definitely not pregnant, but if it's their policy to do the blood test, you will probably have to do it.

If I know for sure i'm not pregnant cause i have not had sex for more than 9 months, would i still need to get my blood tested twice before getting the shot?

Enter, if your period late? If it is, you should take a pregnancy test to find out if you are pregnant. Since the shot lasts for 12 weeks, you would need to wait 12 weeks past your last shot to conceive. So if you had a shot in mid to late summer, it's probably too early for you to have conceived.

La Shala, on average, it takes 10 months for most women to conceive after stopping the shot. But, as you mention, a woman could get pregnant right away after missing a shot. Like most birth control methods, none of them are 100 percent effective and it is possible that a woman could even conceive while on the shot.

The whole issue about getting pregnant a year after the discontinue of the depo shot is so false. I was unable to make it to the docters office, to get my 3 month shot I was only behind about a week and I got pregnant.

Natalie, please share this story with your doctor. I'm not a medical professional, but it sounds like you have a hormonal imbalance that is adversely affecting your mood and mental health. If you go off the depo again, you need to be monitoring to make sure this doesn't happen again.

I was on the depo for 7 years and stopped to try to have a baby,I didnt get preg till about after a year of no depo.after I gave birth I went back on the depo for 6 mths and missed my last shot due to no insurance.after 3 mths of my missed shot I got severly depressed.very scary I felt like I was going crazy.I almost felt possesed and was thinking bad things,I thought my husband wanted to divorce me and I started to resent my two daughters.amazingly enough I got the depo shot yesterday and feel completly normal and back to my old self today.so I guess im gonna be on the depo forever to avoid losing my sanity again.weird huh?anyone else experiance that with the depo shot?

Juanita, the jury is still out on this one. I've read conflicting reports about the relationship between antibiotics and the shot. Some studies say there is no problem, others say it will reduce the efficacy of the shot. My advice? Use a back-up method of birth control like a condom. Better safe than pregnant :)
