Eileen,

side effects from the birth control pill probably would have shown up earlier than now, so I don't think that's the cause. Your doctor could try switching you to a different method or brand to see if that works. If you are using the pill only to prevent pregnancy, and not to alleviate symptoms of endometriosis or to regulate your cycle, there's probably no harm in stopping them, but let your doctor know.

Hi. I've been using birth control pills (Aviane) for a little bit more than a year now. Even though I cannot remember when it started but I have visible black circles and bags under my eyes and mild headaches as well. They cannot be a consequence of my lifestyle because I'm 28, I train every day, I eat healthy, I had a CT scan for sinus infection and got allergy tests which came out all negative) I was wondering if my situation could be a side effect of the pills. If so, would it be OK to quit taking them and see if the bags and circles are gone and then perhaps switch to another brand?

Sharon, switching to a different pill might help. If you don't need the pill for birth control purposes, your doctor might be able to put on a cream or a different pill to control the acne since the pill may be causing more problems for you than it's worth.

Can anyone help with more info about the brown spots that develop on the face after starting the pill? How can they be faded, I'm desperate! I only take the pill because it helps control my 'adult acne'

Enter, if you have stopped taking the pill, you should be able to conceive. If a year goes by without a pregnancy, contact your doctor to find out if you have a fertility problems.

Enter, most evidence suggests that there are no harmful effects of taking the pill during pregnancy, but you should stop the medication as soon as you find out you are pregnant.

Priscella, stress is one of the biggest factors that can affect your cycle and your recent wedding and other business might be the culprit. But since you are on the pill, you should stay pretty regular. The missed pills could bring on spotting or an early period.

You should continue taking your pills, but use a backup method of birth control this month. If your cycle doesn't get back to normal, talk to your doctor or pharmacist about whether you should take a month off the pills to get back on track before starting a new pack.

I've just recently got married and have been on Aviane for about four months now. I had my period about a week and a half ago while still on the 28 day pills. It's been kind of busy since then and I've missed three pills although not consecutively. Now, I've just started my period again. Is this normal?

Hi Brandi, although hormones in the pill can cause hair loss, you would probably notice it a lot quicker. Something that happens over ten years may be related to aging or, if it's serious enough, the development of a hair loss condition. You should mention it to your doctor.

My hair has been thinning for about 10 years now. Is it possible that the pill has anything to do with this problem? I've read side effects on different types of pills and some list thinning hair as a side effect and some don't. Thank you for your response in advance.
