Dora,

if you are on the pill, you shouldn't be ovulating at all. Missing your pill in the middle of a pack can cause some spotting and other period-like symptoms, but you should usually start the pill again as normal.

I'm on the pill for about a year this month i got my cycle and started my pill, last weekend i forgot one and i got mensturation syptoms and i even got again my cycle. This means i ovulated twice in a month, hope it's not serious, i'm bit worried as it never happend to me...should see gynecologist next friday!

Oscar, since she only took the pill for one month, her body should go back to a normal cycle pretty quickly. If you stopped taking the pills in the middle of the pack, she might be irregular for a few weeks until her body gets back on track.

My girlfriend took birth control and then stopped, i was wondering what are the side effects after she stops taking the pill? She only took it for one month and she would normally get her period around the end of the month. Can she expect to get her period around the end of the month still or has it now changed?

Amber,

most pills will make you regular, but only your doctor can tell you which one is best for you. We have an article about Aviane here that you can read to learn more about it before visiting your physician.

Carriane, even if you are on the pill, you will likely not get a period if you are pregnant. Many women confuse implantation bleeding or ovulation bleeding with their periods and don't realize that they have missed a period. But, even if a woman has a period or thinks she does, the other early signs of pregnancy like nausea and fatigue wull still be present.

I am curious, if the period created by a contraceptive pill is artificial, how would one know that they are pregnant. I have heard of people getting such artificial menstruations while being pregnant for the first few months. Is it possible to detect other symptoms, since the pill can create an increased appetite, thus weight gain, as well as irritability and headaches? What are definitive signs of pregnancy while on the pill, if an artificial period could be occurring?

Massiel, your pharmacist is the best person to ask, but you should generally wait until you get your period to start a pack. Keep taking the pills, though you might get your period later this month, depending on how far along you are in your cycle.

I just got my birth control pills, I had asked a relative when where you able to start taking the pill, as soon as possible or if you have to wait for your first cycle, this person said that she just started taking it as soon as she was able to.... this was what I did and now I'm not sure if I should have done that.. should I start a new pack all over again?

Cosmic,

birth control pills are only available by prescription, but women's clinics or health services departments might be able to get you free samples for a few months.

Elyse,

Birth control pills are not recommended for women who are already pregnant. If you think you might be pregnant, have your doctor due a pregnant test before you fill your prescription.

Hayley,

The placebo pill has no hormones of any kind in it. It's only purpose is to keep you in the habit of taking your pill on a regular basis. But, when you have a week with no hormones, your body is allowed to go back to its natural state -- resulting in a menstrual period.

what happens after you start taking the placebo pill? is the ovulaton cycle sped up and that's why you start your period automatically or what?

how do i get free birth control because i'm poor?

-- Contributed by: renee

Ebony, you should really start using birth control pills at the beginning of your cycle, so I think you will need to wait until next month. The reason is that your body is already starting it's natural hormone cycle for the month. If you start taking your pills late, you could still ovulate since the process has already started.

If you do start the pill this month, you will need to use another form of birth control.

i just got off my menstrual and i wanted to get on birth control but its only been 2 days now is it to late to start them if i was to recieve them

Marie, I don't see any reason that a steroid cream would affect the birth control pill. The package insert or your pharmacist should be able to tell you for certain, but steroids aren't one of the medications that usually interfere with the pill. It's mostly antibiotics that we need to worry about.

my doctor perscribed a steroid cream to reduce some redness around my eyes, will this interfere with my birth control pills effectiveness?

Tami, you can either start your pills on the Sunday after your period begins or within 24 hours of your period staring, no matter what day of the week it is. A lot of women like to start the pills on Sunday if it falls a few days after their period starts. It's just an easier way to keep track of things and know that they always start on a Sunday. But you can do whichever you want.
