Brenda, the surrogate mother makes about $13,000-$25,000, the rest of the fees are for medical costs, insurance, agency fees etc. Most surrogates need to be in excellent health, have already given birth at least once, and usually under 35.

Check out SurroMoms for more information or look for an agency or a law firm that specializes in surrogacy in your area.

So on average how much does the surrogate mother make for herself? is the 60,000 to 80,000 what she makes or is the other fees included in this normally? How hard is to get into doing this? What are like all the health requirements if I went through and agency?

Mildred,

you will likely need to pay out-of-pocket for the costs of the IVF, especially since you don't have a medical reason for needing it, aside from wanting to help your mother-in-law. The average cost is usually around $12K, but that can vary based on the fertility clinic you need. The first thing you will likely need to do is contact your local IVF clinic and go through medical screenings and fertility testing to make sure that you are in good shape for conceiving.

Dorothy,

since you are already planning to be used as a surrogate again, I guess the insurance companies aren't willing to cover you given all the costs associated with the IVF process and pregnancy. The fertility clinic that you work with may be able to provide you with ideas about other insurance companies that they work with, or the couple may be able to find a way to get you on their plan for the length of the pregnancy.

I have been a surrogate 5 times the parents always used my health insurance. I lost my insurance this year because of cost cutting at my job. I have a couple interested in using me and they were going to pay for private insurance, but when I applied I was denied because I told the truth about the potential for being a surrogate. Any suggestions?
