Where to Find Pregnant Bikini Contests

This may be the first time you're hearing of pregnant bikini contests. Although they are not yet popular everywhere, they are growing more and more common in coastal areas, such as California and Florida. If this is the first time you've heard of them, you may be unsure of where to find one in your neck of the woods. Typically, pregnant bikini contests are put on as promotions by radio stations or restaurants as a Mother's Day celebration or any other time to draw crowds. Occasionally, baby-related businesses put on these pregnant bikini contests to draw customers to their store. Some pregnant women host contests themselves to celebrate their new baby and get their other pregnant friends together for some fun and games. This can make for an interesting twist on the traditional baby shower!

To find a contest in your area, contact local radio stations and ask if they know of any bikini contests being planned for local expecting women. If the radio says no, try phoning local maternity stores and baby supply superstores. If you are still unable to locate a contest, you may want to discuss the possibility of organizing the contest yourself or suggest that the radio station organize the contest. If you're heading it up, keep in mind that you likely can't enter. You may want to get a friend or family member to head up the contest instead. Just be sure to keep the judging fair and honest.

Judging Criteria

There are several different areas that pregnant women in bikinis are typically judged on for these contests. Some of the prizes can include:

• Biggest belly
• Sexiest pregnant woman
• Least number of stretch marks
• Largest number of stretch marks
• Best design on the belly
• Best costume
• Best conception story

Contestants are often asked how they conceived and a "Miss Conceptionality" prize is awarded to the most creative story. The prizes range from money and gift certificates to local restaurants and retailers to complete collections of baby furniture and supplies. Prizes can start in value from as little as fifty dollars to a much as several thousand dollars. A thousand dollars can buy a lot of baby supplies, so it's easy to see why women enter these contests.

There is usually a basic set of rules for entrants. For example:

• Entrants must be at least six months pregnant (around 24 weeks), for example, but this number vary and be seven months or whatever the contest organizers prefer
• Some contests have minimum age requirements and others don't
• Modesty rules, such as bikinis that don't show too much cleavage
• On the opposite side, some contests require nothing but bikinis (no one-piece suits)

Most contests have a dress-up portion of the contest, where contestants come up with a theme. It is during this portion that many contestants paint their bellies or add interesting accessories, such as high heels and a shopping bag or a Hawaiian luau skirt. This is the time to truly let your unique personality and fun-loving spirit shine through. This is also the portion where the front-runner contestants pull ahead of the other entrants, so if you're planning to enter, be sure to put a lot of thought and creativity into your costume.
