Signing Up for Pregnancy Forums

As you consider joining a forum for discussing your pregnancy, think about the things you want to discuss the most. Some forums have different discussion groups, ranging from health issues to unplanned pregnancies to birth date clubs. Consider these questions when evaluating a forum website:

  • What kind of support am I looking for?
  • Do most posters sign on daily, or is it an occasional post for information?
  • Are there links to articles and information?
  • What is the “atmosphere?” Do people seem friendly and knowledgeable or are they only looking for people to agree with their opinions?
  • Do I want other topics such as fashion, politics, or travel to be discussed on the forums?
  • Do I want the option of creating an online journal?

Most forums will allow you to sign up after reading their rules and regulations. However, you may also need to create a username and password or give an email address. Some websites restrict access to certain areas of the forums until you have a certain number of posts.

Tips for New Forum Users

Before you being posting, you should read the rules and regulations. Additionally, if there are “updates” listed, you should check those, as they often have member news. Read through a few different threads, or topics being discussed, before posting.

If you are new to posting online, consider these tips to make the experience easier:

  • Do not post photographs of you or your baby online.
  • Do not use real names of anyone you discuss.
  • Find out what common abbreviations are used on your particular forum.
  • Introduce yourself in the new members section, if there is one.
  • Try not to use profanity in your posts.
  • Proper grammar and punctuation will make your posts easier to read.

Forums to Try

Finding pregnancy forums online is easy; but finding one that fits your needs may be harder than you think. The following forums may help you through your conception, pregnancy, and baby related needs:

  • BabyFit offers pregnancy fitness and nutrition support. Articles related to pregnancy, baby naming, recipes, and exercise are available. Within the forums, geographical groups are available if you are interested in connecting with people in your area.
  • American Pregnancy Association Forums allow you to view topics being discussed without signing up. Almost all the threads and topics relate to pregnancy, although there is a “Random” section for other discussions. Due date clubs, infertility issues, breastfeeding, and more are topics you post on.
  • JustMommies offers articles and advice for pregnant women and about their babies. This website also has free baby website hosting, video and photo hosting, and items related to health of children and women.
  • MomConnection offers pregnancy, baby, and child specific topics for discussion. It offers parenting-specific information and was created by the magazines Parenting and Babytalk.
  • The Pregnant Connection has items related to pregnancy. Topics include trimester-related issues, fitness, sex and intimacy, and a teen support section. A newsletter is available for members.
  • Bounty offers forums related to conception, pregnancy, baby, toddler, and mom issues. Additionally, Bounty has other websites you can visit related to money, shopping, travel, and more. This is the site for those who want information related to not only pregnancy, but the rest of their lives as well.

Whatever pregnancy forums you choose to join, remember that nothing can replace advice of doctors. Those posting answers to your questions are just people like you; they are not experts. However, you can find a plethora of information at your fingertips in these online communities if you take the time to join one.

Denise, congrats on your pregnancy! This website is generally more of a Q&A rather than a discussion board, but there are some links above where you can find other expecting moms to chat with.

I am a basket case, optimisitic at one minute, and quaking with fear the next. This is my first baby...long story, had a miscarriage and when I was younger was pregnant, but had to abort...long story. So, here I am at 45 going to do it for the first time! Any advice is welcome. Thanks and please email me back!
