Pregnancy Calendar Week 29
From LoveToKnow Pregnancy
Your Baby during Pregnancy Calendar Week 29
By pregnancy calendar week 29, your baby now weighs nearly 3 pounds and is over 15 inches long. Since he/she continues to gain weight each day, you may notice that your baby’s movements become less frequent after pregnancy calendar week 29. Since his/her uterine home is starting to feel a bit cramped, your baby is now curled up into the fetal position. His/her arms and legs are crossed.
During pregnancy calendar week 29, your baby’s senses are developing. He/she can now hear, see, taste, and smell. Your baby’s rapid brain development also allows him/her to more efficiently regulate his/her body temperature. A baby born at this point has a good chance of survival.
Your Changing Body
By pregnancy calendar week 29, most women have gained between 19 and 25 pounds. At this time, the top of the uterus can be felt at approximately 4 inches above the navel.
During the third trimester, your baby undergoes a period of great growth and development. This may cause you to feel increasingly fatigued. To maintain your energy levels, make sure your diet includes plenty of calcium, iron, protein, folic acid, and vitamin C. You may also want to arrange your schedule to allow for a brief midday nap or a slightly earlier bedtime.
While constipation is common during the early weeks of pregnancy, some women experience this problem during the third trimester. While laxative pills and mineral oils are not safe for use during pregnancy, you can use over-the-counter remedies such as Metamucil or Colace to relieve your symptoms. Increasing your fluid intake, adding high fiber foods to your diet, and regularly engaging in moderate forms of exercise can help prevent future problems.
If you’re expecting multiples, it’s especially important to be aware of the symptoms of preeclampsia during your third trimester. While preeclampsia only occurs in 5 to 10 percent of pregnancies, it is more common in women who are expecting multiples. If you notice severe abdominal pain, headaches, visual disturbances, or a sudden increase in swelling, contact your healthcare provider immediately.
Decoding Your Pregnancy-Related Dreams
The third trimester of pregnancy is a time of overwhelming emotions. One minute you may be eager to meet your bundle of joy. A short time later, you may feel anxious about the responsibilities of parenthood. As you prepare for your baby’s birth, you may notice that your dreams seem much more vivid than normal.
Many pregnancy-related dreams involve pleasant fantasies about the joys of motherhood. For example, you may dream of taking your newborn for a walk in the park or having a baby who displays exceptional artistic talent. You may also dream about your baby’s appearance, imagining him/her with your partner’s eyes or your smile.
However, if you’re experiencing unpleasant pregnancy-related dreams, there’s no cause for concern. For example, many women report dreams of losing things or being attacked during pregnancy calendar week 29. These dreams simply represent a natural concern over your own vulnerability and your capacity to meet the challenges of motherhood.
