Pregnancy Calendar Week 12
From LoveToKnow Pregnancy
Your Baby During Pregnancy Calendar Week 12
By pregnancy calendar week 12, your baby is approximately the size of a plum. He/she weighs about 14 grams and measures roughly 3 ½ inches from crown to rump. His/her eyes and ears are completely formed and are beginning to move closer to their final positions.
In addition to the changes in your baby’s appearance, he/she is also developing internally. His/her pituitary gland is beginning to produce hormones such as prolactin and corticotrophin. While your baby’s brain is still growing, the basic structure is now in place. By the twelfth week of pregnancy, bile is also being secreted.
Your Changing Body
Since pregnancy calendar week 12 marks the end of the first trimester, you are now one-third of the way to meeting your little bundle of joy! By this time, your risk of miscarriage is quite low. If you haven’t told your friends and family about your pregnancy, now is a great time to share your exciting news.
By the twelfth week of pregnancy, your uterus is too large to fit in your pelvis. You may be able to feel it just above your public bone. If you’re not already showing, you can expect to develop a distinct baby bump within the next few weeks. However, this doesn’t mean you’re free to eat as much as you want. Doctors recommend that a woman limit her weight gain to 25-35 pounds over the course of her pregnancy. Since this weight should be gained gradually, it’s important to consume a well-balanced diet. Remember that your baby gets his/her nourishment from the food you eat.
One of the most common pregnancy symptoms during this time is excessive flatulence. If you’re feeling bloated from the pressure caused by excess gas, don't worry--it won’t hurt your baby. However, dietary modifications can ease your own discomfort. For example, you may want to begin eating smaller and more frequent meals. You may also want to avoid beans, onions, fried foods, and sugary sweets.
Shopping for a New Wardrobe
There’s no way to know for sure how soon you’ll need a maternity wardrobe. However, women who already have one or more children typically begin showing sooner than first-time mothers. In any case, pregnancy calendar week 12 is a good time to begin thinking about purchasing maternity clothes.
If you’re dreading the prospect of purchasing a maternity wardrobe, you may find yourself pleasantly surprised. Today’s maternity fashions are more stylish than ever before. Maternity clothes are available in casual, funky, sporty, trendy, and professional styles. You won’t have to sacrifice your sense of personal style just because you’re pregnant!
If you’re having trouble finding a suitable maternity wardrobe, try adapting non-maternity clothing for use during your pregnancy. For example, stretchy yoga pants can easily accommodate a growing belly. If the prospect of wearing maternity underwear is enough to make your cringe, try buying cotton bikini underwear one size larger than normal to wear under your belly.
While it can be tempting to go on a whirlwind spending spree, watch your budget when you’re purchasing maternity fashions. Since it’s impossible to know how your figure will change in the next few months, you don’t want to waste money on clothes that won’t fit when you need them. It’s best to buy a few basic items now and add to your wardrobe as needed.

Court, many women gain weight differntly during pregnancy, especially if you've had other children. As long as you are being followed by an OB/Gyn who is comfortable with your weight gain, you should be fine.
-- Contributed by: HollySwansonWow. I must be either A gaining weight wayy to fast or B a lot farther along then my original due date. I'm supposably 9-10weeks along, and I already had to buy maternity jeans/bigger jeans.
-- Contributed by: CourtManoj, most women stop experiencing the vomiting by the end of the first trimester, which is where you are now. Hopefully it will pass soon, but if not, talk to your doctor.
