Many women feel sexy when they are pregnant. There is something about knowing you are carrying another human being inside you that makes many women feel empowered. Pregnant women, including celebrities, often have photos taken of then while they are in their last trimester of pregnancy. But for some celebrities, the photos have been met with shock and condemnation from the public and has even ended in the firing of some from their jobs.

Private photos of Melissa Joan Hart pregnant circulated on the Internet during her first pregnancy. Men’s websites were especially cruel about the photos taken of her in semi-nude poses. Their fantasy of the squeaky clean teenager from Clarissa Tells it All and Sabrina the Teenage Witch was apparently crushed forever. The photos, which were stolen, were taken down from most of the websites showing them. People who apparently don’t understand that women have to gain weight while pregnant also panned photos of the star when she was at her heaviest during both her first and second pregnancies.

Other celebrities who have also suffered under this unkind scrutiny include Demi Moore, Jennifer Lopez, and most recently, Jamie Lynn Spears.

Dealing with the Media

Melissa dealt with the resulting negative media storm with grace and maturity. At the time of her first pregnancy she was 29. After spending 24 years of her life in the spotlight, there was little that could upset her. She believes that pregnancy is the one time in anyone’s life that they shouldn’t be judged on their weight.

Melissa and her husband confirmed the second pregnancy when she was in her first trimester. The couple is being secretive about the sex of the child, which they know, but they’ll reveal it when the child is born. Melissa is being equally secretive about her private life with her husband. You can be sure that no semi-naked photos of the star will surface on the Internet this time around.

Melissa's Thoughts on Pregnancy

When Melissa found out she was pregnant for the first time, she said she was “freaked out.” This moment of panic quickly passed and both she and her husband were thrilled at the prospect of their first child.

Being pregnant isn’t easy, though, even for the most physically fit individuals. Melissa admits she has a sweet tooth and had problems over this past holiday avoiding all of the high calorie foods that are commonly found in homes at Christmas. On her blog, she has vowed to try harder during the last trimester of her second pregnancy to eat more vegetables and fewer sweets.

What the Future Holds

Melissa is enjoying this second pregnancy and thinks she and her husband Mark Wilkerson will have at least two more children before she hits 40. Her career hasn’t suffered after she took time off from having her first child and she has continued to act and direct. Her most recent movie was the 2007 ABC Family hit Holiday in Handcuffs. While she will take some time off to enjoy her new baby and get back into shape, we can expect more acting and directing from this versatile television star.
