Maternity Pajamas

From LoveToKnow Pregnancy

Sweet Dreams

While there’s no surefire prescription for a good night’s sleep during pregnancy, many women relax by slipping on a pair of comfortable maternity pajamas and curling up with a good book.

Pajamas

Maternity pajamas can be purchased from a variety of sources. Wal-Mart, K-Mart, Target, and other discount retailers have small maternity clothing sections. Popular department stores and specialty stores such as Motherhood Maternity often carry a larger selection of maternity sleepwear. If you hate to shop, you can even purchase your maternity wardrobe essentials online. (If you opt for this method, look for websites that offer free shipping and liberal return policies!)

Maternity pajamas should generally be purchased in your pre-pregnancy size. However, if you’re carrying multiples or have gained more than the recommended 25-35 pounds, you may need a larger than average size. When trying on maternity sleepwear, use a small pillow to help you visualize how they will accommodate your growing belly.

Designer Maternity Pajamas

Pregnancy is an emotional rollercoaster. One minute, you’re anxiously awaiting your new arrival. A few seconds later, you’re gasping in disbelief at your expanding bump! If you’re in need of self-confidence boost, consider purchasing a pair of designer maternity pajamas.

Designer maternity sleepwear comes in as many different styles as your pre-pregnancy fashions. Whether you prefer a casual, sporty, or seductive look, you’re sure to find a pair that fits your needs. The selection includes camisoles, gowns, robes, cropped pants, and boxer shorts. Available fabrics include cotton, flannel, silk, mesh, and silk. Many styles feature lace and/or ribbon accents for a feminine touch. Screen printed or embroidered designs are also quite popular.

While most women only plan to wear maternity sleepwear for a few months, many styles are designed to be a long-term investment. If you’re planning to breastfeed, you may wish to purchase a pair of maternity pajamas with a wrap bodice or discrete nursing slits. If you’re large busted, you may wish to look for maternity pajamas with a built-in nursing bra for additional support.

Cheap Maternity Sleepwear

If you don’t want to spend your hard-earned money on a new pair of maternity pajamas, you may be able to reuse clothing you already own. You can pair a large sweatshirt or one of your husband’s old t-shirts with a pair of stretchy yoga pants to create makeshift maternity pajamas. If appearance isn’t a priority, any loose-fitting clothing should do the trick.

Another budget-friendly alternative to purchasing new maternity pajamas is to simply borrow a larger pair of pajamas from a close friend or relative. If you’re naturally thin or still in your first trimester, this may be the best choice for you.

If you live in a larger area, you may be able to purchase inexpensive maternity sleepwear from a consignment shop. Many consignment shops have a selection of maternity clothing. Some even specialize in fashions for expectant mothers. However, it may take some time to find an item that suits your sense of style.
