Maternity Dress Patterns
From LoveToKnow Pregnancy
If you sew your own clothing, finding maternity dress patterns may be easier than you think.
Versatile Maternity Dress Patterns
When shopping for patterns to make your own maternity clothes, find those with the most options. Not only will your pieces go together, but you can get a starter wardrobe out of just a couple key items.
The following patterns offer ideas for several outfits using one pattern that you can modify just by changing a few simple things:
- Butterick Pattern B3403—This “easy” pattern can make an apron dress, top, shots, and capris.
- info.php?products id=992 Kwik Sew Pattern 2430—Get a short dress from this pattern, along with a top, pants, and shorts.
- info.php?products id=316 CNT Pattern cn901-1—The Xceptional Patchwork Dress is a multi-trimester dress. Add the loops and ties, and you can wear it from the first trimester through your last (and even after birth).
Most maternity dress patterns will cost around ten dollars. Watch for sales in your favorite stores if you want to buy several or if you want more extensive designs since these may be more costly.
Where to Buy Maternity Patterns
Many women purchase their maternity dress patterns online. Online retailers often have a huge selection of patterns, including some that are vintage, out of stock, or no longer produced. Consider the following online retailers:
- Ebay is a great place to look for maternity dress patterns since you may find patterns that are out of stock or otherwise hard to find.
- Grandma’s House! Maternity Sewing Patterns—Another great selection of maternity patterns from top companies.
- nursing patterns.htm New Little Blessing—Offers more modestly cut maternity and nursing dress patterns (patterns may change frequently).
You can also search for maternity patterns at your local fabric store, like JoAnn Fabrics or Hancock Fabrics. Discount stores that have fabric sections may offer a selection of patterns as well, although the variety of maternity options may not be very large.
If you are the member of a sewing circle or have a friend who enjoys making dresses, you can ask for recommendations for easy designs.
