Maternity Clothes
From LoveToKnow Pregnancy
As your stomach, also commonly referred to as a bump by maternity clothes manufacturers, grows, you may quickly find the clothes in your closet bind or no longer fit. Therefore, pregnancy provides the perfect opportunity to do something many women enjoy anyway—shop!
While shopping may be a favorite hobby of many women, shopping for maternity apparel that may only be worn a few months may seem like an expensive undertaking. Add to that how difficult it may be to find maternity fashions that match your existing style, and it can be downright frustrating. Relieve the frustration by looking for ways to expand your maternity clothing selection.
Maternity Specialty Shops
While the cost may be higher, maternity boutiques offer the widest selection of stylish designs and sizes. The frugal shopper will look to maternity clothes specialty shops for a few select pieces for either an outfit for special occasions or clothing that will mix and match to create dozens of unique outfits. For example, a pair of low cut Maternity Jeans will go a long way to filling out your casual attire needs.
Department Stores
Most major department stores offer at least a limited selection of maternity fashions at significantly lower prices than maternity boutiques. This is a great place to pick up Nursing Bras that will last you through your pregnancy and well into the first months of your baby’s life. Underwear, basic stretch pants, and larger shoes for those swollen feet can all be found at a bargain.
Used Maternity Clothes
Maternity clothes are designed to fit a woman best during the last five months of her pregnancy. Chances are the clothes will still be in good, if not like new condition, at the end of the pregnancy. Consignment shops—those that specialize in maternity clothes, children’s clothing, and generic—are a treasure trove of exceptional buys for the expectant mother. Do not forget to check at your local thrift stores either. While they may not rack maternity clothes separately, you can often find steals on maternity clothes if you are willing to sort through the racks.
Online Maternity Fashions
Especially if you live in a small community, shopping online may be your best bet for stylish maternity apparel. Look for deals on free shipping to maximize your shopping dollars. You can find website that specialize in new and used maternity clothes by doing a basic search engine lookup. Do not forget to check out the auction websites, like eBay. You can also find more unique styles by shopping online. Online stores like Stella Maternity offer maternity clothes that are more edgy and modern than you may find at your local maternity store. Fertile Mind Maternity offers a fabulous range of maternity accessories that are pregnancy must-haves, and for convenience North American shoppers can visit their US maternity site.
You Can Always Borrow...
If you would prefer to save your money to spend on the baby, look to family members and friends who have recently had a baby. You may be able to borrow a complete wardrobe for the term of your pregnancy.
Word of Warning
One word of caution when shopping, especially online, while the rule of thumb is to buy the same size clothes as you wore before you got pregnant, you may find this rule does not apply to you, especially if you are expecting multiples. Make sure to try on the maternity outfits before you buy them. If your bump is not very big yet, you may even want to put a small pillow under your clothes to see how the clothes will look when you are farther along in your pregnancy. Also, make sure the store offers a liberal return policy.
