Rumors Suggest Jessica Simpson is Pregnant

In recent months, fans of the popular singing sensation have been left wondering, “Is Jessica Simpson pregnant?” The pregnancy rumors began after Jessica announced her split from husband Nick Lachey in November 2005. Sources close to the couple claimed Jessica was six weeks pregnant at the time. However, both Nick and Jessica refused to comment. "After three years of marriage, and careful thought and consideration, we have decided to part ways," the couple said in an official statement. "This is the mutual decision of two people with an enormous amount of respect and admiration for each other. We hope that you respect our privacy during this difficult time."

Is there any truth to this pregnancy rumor? In January 2006, Jessica performed at the People’s Choice Awards in Los Angeles. She appeared to be in top condition--with no sign of a telltale baby bump. Until she’s seen purchasing maternity clothes, it’s probably safe to assume the Jessica Simpson pregnant rumor is false.

A Commitment to Family

Unlike many popular entertainers, Jessica has always remained focused on her family. Her father Joe Truett Simpson, a former Baptist youth minister, is her longtime manager. Her mother Tina Ann Drew, a former Sunday School teacher, has been an important source of support throughout her career. In addition, Jessica enjoys a close relationship with her younger sister and fellow singer Ashlee Simpson.

Since her divorce, Jessica has been spending even more time than usual with her family. During the Thanksgiving holiday, she enjoyed dinner with her extended family in Texas. Ashlee told Star magazine the family tried their best to make the holiday enjoyable for her. "We all had a good Thanksgiving, all the family was together and we had a wonderful time,” Ashlee said. "We didn't even talk about Jessica's breakup from Nick; it wasn't something we wanted to dwell on. Jessica's happy and she's absolutely fine.” Ashlee had no comment on the rumors regarding a pregnant Jessica Simpson.

Is Adoption an Option?

Even if the pregnancy rumors are false, fans may still be able to see Jessica with a child at her side. Jessica has frequently expressed her interest in adopting a child. If there’s no man in the picture, it’s possible she may decide this is the best way to achieve her goal of motherhood. In August 2005, she told reporters, “I definitely want to adopt. I've been visiting orphanages with my parents since I was a little girl. That has taught me so much about friendship and family."

If Jessica decides to adopt, she’ll be in good company. Actress Nicole Kidman has two adopted children from her marriage with Tom Cruise. Actress Angelina Jolie, currently pregnant with Brad Pitt’s child, is the adoptive mother of children from Cambodia and Ethiopia.

What Does the Future Hold for Jessica?

Even without a baby in the picture, Jessica has plenty to keep her busy. Jessica earned more than $30 million in 2005 and enjoyed tremendous popularity. Her most recent endeavors include playing Daisy Duke in The Dukes of Hazard and releasing her own line of fragrance and cosmetic products. Her upcoming projects include releasing a clothing line and producing her own exercise videos. A pregnant Jessica Simpson would likely find it very difficult to keep up this grueling schedule.
