Is Jennifer Hudson pregnant? Many of her fans would welcome the news of a new baby in the singing starlet's life. However, the rumors may be as unfounded as Jessica Simpson pregnancy rumors that circulated in 2005.

Jennifer Hudson is a former American Idol contestant who has made a huge impact on the entertainment industry. Though she didn't win the contest, she has managed to emerge as a celebrated performer on stage and screen. Her performance in the movie Dreamgirls in 2006 earned her an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress.

Not all news has been positive for the performer. The murders of Hudson's mother, brother, and nephew in 2008 served a detrimental blow to the performer's life. The stunning news was followed by the arrest of her brother-in-law, William Balfour, who has been charged with the murders.

Jennifer has managed to continue to achieve great things in spite of the tragedy, notably a Grammy for best R&B album and the happy news of a pregnancy in Hudson's life would be a wonderful addition.

The Essence Magazine website states that sources say that the Jennifer Hudson is pregnant rumor is true, but it does not specify what those sources are.

Some pictures are circulating of Ms. Hudson that may appear to confirm the rumor. BumpShack.com has some images of the singer taken on April 10 at the 2009 Women’s Empowerment Series held in Indianapolis. BumpShack refers to the brief mention about the sources on Essence Magazine's website.

An article released by NY Daily News reports that the singer and former American Idol contestant is pregnant, referring back to the same Essence Magazine mention. The article states that Hudson herself told the magazine staff member that she was expecting, though the magazine's site does not confirm this.

People Magazine announced the engagement of Jennifer Hudson and David Otunga in September of 2008. David Otunga is known by some as "Punk" from the reality television show I Love New York 2. He graduated from Harvard Law in 2006 after transferring from Columbia University, where he majored in cognitive neuroscience. He also holds a degree in psychology from the University of Illinois.

He currently works as an attorney for the RainbowPush Coalition, but Otunga has received considerable criticism for his appearance on reality television, as evidenced by a 2007 article on Above the Law. He currently is listed on Attorney Register and Disciplinary Commission website for Illinois as unauthorized to practice law.

Jennifer Hudson's publicist Lisa Kasteler stated that the performer is not pregnant, despite the rumors circulating around the Internet. While many online sources are circulating the news of a new baby, none appears to have been confirmed.

One publication that would be particularily interested in Jennifer Hudson's pregnancy is the Chicago Sun Times, since the starlet is from Chicago. The publication's latest story about the singer, Jennifer Hudson Makes Homecoming Concert a Family Affair, describes her shining performance, mentioning her engagement ring. However, the article makes no mention of a pregnancy, nor does it suggest that she even looks pregnant.

Pregnant celebs continue to be a topic of fascination, and considering the harrowing ordeal Hudson has faced, her story is one of particular interest. Only time will tell if Jennifer is actually pregnant. For now, we simply have to wait for pregnancy pictures of this talented performer.
