Once Again, Gwyneth Paltrow is Pregnant!
In early January 2006, fans learned Oscar-winning actress Gwyneth Paltrow is pregnant with her second child. Gwen already has a young daughter with husband and Coldplay frontman Chris Martin.
The new baby will be a boy. He’s expected to arrive sometime in April. Until Gwyneth gives birth, the family is staying in Southern California. While Chris and Gwyneth moved to London shortly after Apple’s birth in May 2004, this time Gwyneth wishes to be as close as possible to her mom, actress Blythe Danner. The two are very close and Blythe is ecstatic over the impending birth of her newest grandchild.
Gwyneth first met Chris backstage at a 2002 Coldplay concert. They married during a small Southern California ceremony held in December 2003. The wedding took place just days after Gwyneth announced she was pregnant with her first child.
What Will They Name the Baby?
Shortly after fans began asking, “Is Gwyneth Paltrow pregnant?” they began speculating what name she’d choose for the baby. After Apple Blythe Alison Martin was born, people across the country wondered why Gwyneth chose such a usual name for her daughter. During an interview with Oprah Winfrey, Gwyneth defended her choice by saying, “Apples are so sweet and they're wholesome.”
While many couples do choose similar names for all of their children, there’s no guarantee Apple’s baby sibling will have a fruit-themed name. Current celebrity baby naming trends include naming children after favorite travel destinations or literary characters. Many couples are also choosing to give their babies one-syllable names or first names that were once commonly used as surnames.
A Spiritual Experience
Like many other Hollywood actresses, Gwyneth is a fan of yoga, alternative medicine, and healthy eating. In fact, Gwyneth once followed a strict macrobiotic diet until the intensity of her cravings during her first pregnancy led her to abandon the regime in favor of a more moderate plan.
For this pregnancy, Gwyneth plans to have an underwater birth. She had planned to go this route for Apple’s delivery, but later began to worry about how she’d cope with pain. This time, the pregnant Gwyneth Paltrow says she’s confident in her ability to handle the situation. She hopes the underwater birth will make her new baby’s arrival a more “spiritual” experience.
Balancing Marriage, Parenthood, and a Thriving Career
Like many celebrities, Gwyneth believes in protecting her privacy. In fact, she is seldom seen at red carpet events with her husband. According to Gwyneth, flying under the radar is the best way to ensure a successful celebrity marriage.
Even though Gwyneth is a very accomplish actress, she places a great deal of importance on her family commitments. During one Time magazine interview, she told fans, "I could not have fathomed working Apple's first year. I look at certain women, and I think, ‘How do they just go and do films back to back to back?"
The pregnant Gwyneth Paltrow’s upcoming projects include Running with Scissors and Infamous. She recently made her directorial debut with Dealbreakers, a short film that was widely praised at the 2006 Sundance Film Festival.
