Fans who just heard the Gabrielle Reece pregnant rumors can now celebrate the news of her baby. Professional volleyball player Reece gave birth on January 1, 2008, as an incredible way to ring in the New Year.
Gabrielle Reece Pregnant Announcement
On June 29, 2007, Gabrielle Reece announced her pregnancy to the world on NBC’s TODAY show. Reece kept up her correspondence with the TODAY show by showing women how to stay fit while pregnant. Reece told the show, “I try to tell women, 'You're not dead. You're not fat. You're pregnant.'”
At the time of her announcement, Reece was approximately three months along. Her due date was set for January 2, 2008.
Baby Brody’s Arrival
People magazine reported that daughter Brody Jo Hamilton was born on January 1, 2008, in Hawaii to Reece and her pro-surfer husband Laird Hamilton. She was 8 pounds, 2 ounces. Brody joins older sister Reece Viola, 4, and step-sister Izabella, 12, from Hamilton’s previous marriage.
Reece’s Pregnancy Tips
Despite being five months pregnant, Reece was in such good shape during her pregnancy that she competed in the pro-volleyball circuit in September 2007 according to her website GoToGabby. She shared some of her workout tips with readers of Pregnancy Magazine, FitPregnancy, and in a workout DVD she created.
Pregnancy Magazine
Pregnancy Magazine featured Reece as the cover model for the December 2007 issue. Celebrity Baby Blog has a long feature on the advice and tips Reece gave out in the issue, including fitness moves. Several use dumbbells while others feature an exercise ball. Other exercise suggestions include:
- Quadruped body rolls
- Hip bridges using the ball for support
- Picking up the baby
- Bicep-tricep combo
- Rear delt flys to “w”
- Splinted 3-1 tempo sit-up on the ball
FitPregnancy
Gabrielle Reece shared six moves perfect for the second trimester with FitPregnancy. The moves shown work the arms, butt, legs, and back. Reece is photographed completing each move and instructions are given that correspond to the photos. The moves shown include:
- Squat and pass
- Plie and sweep
- Lunge and press
- Kicks on all fours
- Dead lift to standing press
- Side-lying kicks
Several of the moves use hand weights for strength training. A short demonstration from the first trimester workout DVD is shown at the bottom of the instruction pages.
Prenatal Workout DVDs
Along with trainer Mike Monroe, Gabrielle Reece has developed several pregnancy fitness DVDs. Designed to follow along from the first through the third trimesters, they are perfect for moms-to-be who want to stay in shape. According to her website, the DVDs have the following features:
- Exercises adhere to the guidelines from American College of Obstetrics and Gynecologists
- Workouts are 15 minutes each
- Workouts are designed for each month of pregnancy
- Fitness level variations are given for those who are less or more advanced
The exercises are aimed at areas affected by pregnancy, but offer a full workout. Since the workouts change monthly, they take into account how the body is changing and offers safe options for that time. Using the videos can help make taking off the pregnancy pounds after birth easier.
