First Response Early Result Pregnancy Test
From LoveToKnow Pregnancy
Use a First Response Early Result pregnancy test to find out if you are pregnant before you even miss your period.
The Science Behind Early Results
First Response has created a test that can detect lower levels of the hormone hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin), also known as the pregnancy hormone. This hormone is present in urine once women becomes pregnant and it rises as the pregnancy progresses. By creating a test that can detect lower levels, it allows women to get a positive reading as much as four days before a menstrual cycle is late.
To get the best results, take the test with your first morning urine. It will have the highest levels of hCG, although you can take the test at any point in the day.
Accuracy of Test Results
According to First Response Early Result pregnancy test, positive test results can occur in women up to four days before they expect their period. The company claims that they have been able to detect hCG in pregnant women with the Early Result test in the following percentages:
- 69% of women 4 days before their period
- 83% of women 3 days before their period
- 93% of women 2 days before their period
- 93% of women 1 day before their period
The accuracy of these readings was approximately 99% in clinical tests and 98.4% with consumer usage. The accuracy of the results depends on proper use of the test and proper calculation of when a menstrual cycle should begin. Women may also have differing levels of the pregnancy hormone in their bodies, so some women could have undetectable levels upon testing with an early pregnancy test.
Negative results obtained before a period is missed do not necessarily mean you are not pregnant. Instead, you may simply not have enough of the hormone to be detected. Wait a few days and test again. If you continue to get negative results and are over a week late for your period, see your healthcare provider.
How to Use First Response Early Result Pregnancy Tests
Before purchasing the pregnancy test, check to make sure the expiration date has not passed. Store it in a cool place. When you are ready to use the test, follow these instructions:
- Unwrap the test.
- Remove the overcap.
- Hold the test by the thumb grip and place the absorbent tip downward. The results window should be away from your body.
- Place the absorbent tip in your urine stream for 5 seconds.
- While the tip is still pointed downwards, place the cap on the tip.
- Lie the test on a flat surface with the results window facing up.
After three minutes, you will be able to read the results. Two pink lines, even if one is a faint line, indicate that the pregnancy hormone hCG was detected and that you are pregnant (see a doctor to confirm). One line means that you are not pregnant, or that you do not have enough of the hormone in your body to be detected. If your period has still not arrived after a week, test again or see a doctor.

Danielle,
since you've already tested and gotten a negative, you should wait several days before retesting. You can go crazy taking too many tests, trust me. You are better off waiting until you can get a more reliable result. You could also give your doctor a call and ask for a blood-based pregnancy test, but I suspect they will tell you to wait a few more weeks and test again.
-- Contributed by: HollySwansonHollySwanson,I would like to start off and say thank you so much for your feed back on my comment.... i did have the IUD with the hormones. but i still have not gotten my period this month and i did a pregnancy test today with first response and it came out negative. Today is 5 days before my usual date of my monthly period. i would like to know if i should just wait till the 25th or 26th of October then take another pregnancy test?
-- Contributed by: DanielleDanielle, did you have an IUD that had hormones in it? If so, some of the symptoms might be related to the hormones leaving your body, sort of like a withdrawal. Since your last period was 9/20, your next one is due 10/18, but your cycle might be off a bit since coming off the IUD. If you don't have your period yet, this is the right time to take a test. good luck!
