True stories of the attempts at getting pregnant

Painting Bellies

by HollySwanson on November 06, 2009

I stumbled upon a lot of creative photos of pregnant bellies that were all dressed up for Halloween. When I was eight months pregnant with my son, who was born a few days before Christmas, my husband painted my belly to look like a present. We took photos of me standing next to our tree with my hands on my belly like I was holding out a gift, which, really, I was.

But I was blown away by some of the great photos for Halloween. Here are some links to a belly painted like a basketball and an artistic pumpkin. My favorite, though, won a costume contest at TMZ.com and is an incredible pumpkin carved to look like a growing fetus.

I thought I was being pretty creative when we painted my belly, but it’s elementary compared to some of the real works of art that people come up. When I recently looked online for “pregnant belly painted,” I found how-to-articles, professional artists who paint bellies for photography sessions or baby showers, and belly-painting kits for do-it-yourselfers. It’s a great way to express yourself and create a temporary work of art that can be a great family memory.

Hi Ashley,
I’ve looked but haven’t seen my picture in years. There have been too many moves since then, but we first painted my belly red then added green stripes to make it look like a ribbon. The ribbon on top of the “present” was the hardest. You have to start it lower on the belly, otherwise it ends up on the too high up and you can’t really see it in the photos.
