True stories of the attempts at getting pregnant

My Next Step in Fertility Treatment

by HollySwanson on October 20, 2009

I’m about a week out from my next appointment with my fertility specialist. I’ve had to change the appointment twice, simply because I have a much harder time making it down to the medical center where I’m treated, which is now about ninety minutes from my new home.

I’m not sure exactly what to expect from the visit. Either way, there are going to be some tough decisions to make. First on my list is scheduling a laparoscopy to clean out my endometriosis and check if my fallopian tubes are open. From there, we’ll need to decide if we have enough sperm left to try IUI a few more times. I’d like to put off in vitro as long as possible or avoid it all together because of the expense. If I spend $10 grand trying to get pregnant, I won’t have anything left to buy baby supplies or send any child to college.

Any route we’ll explore is trying a fertility medication other than Clomid. Although there are a lot of alternatives, I’m not sure how effective they would be for me since I did ovulate on Clomid. It would be different if I didn’t respond to the Clomid, but since I did there’s probably not much sense in trying something different. What I really need is a medication that can make me ovulate while magically attracting sperm directly to it. Can somebody work on that?
