True stories of the attempts at getting pregnant

Ironic

by HollySwanson on October 25, 2009

Even though it doesn’t really matter and I’m not actively tracking it, I seem to be ovulating right now. And, I’m on my third pack of birth control pills. Although it’s unusual, I know that I’ve ovulated before while on the pill since it was confirmed during an ultrasound about a year ago. I haven’t missed any pills and I’m not taking any medication, like antibiotics, that would cause the pill to fail, so it’s simply a case of my body “overriding” the pills. A doctor I spoke with last year said that many women don’t realize that the pill prevents pregnancy through two means—by preventing ovulation, obviously, but also by thickening the cervix mucus and thinning the lining of the uterus. That’s why many women have lighter periods when on the pill. This could also mean that women may ovulate more often on the pill than expected, but the pills other effects still prevent pregnancy.

Or, it just means that my hormones are so screwed up and powerful that they supersede the hormones of the pill. My hormones finally get their act together and there’s nothing I can do.
